: Doing a front end rebuild / disc brake install with no engine

I am in the process of removing my steerling linkage from the front of my 72 Chevelle, rebuilding that with a kit, and at the same time installing disc brakes when I go back together with it all.

Something that ran across my mind while I was thinking this project through today at work.......usually there is an engine in there that adds a bit more weight to the car. Is there anything I should wait to tighten up or torque down until I have the weight of the engine back in the car? Or should I just reinstall it the same way it came out and tighten everything down?

Matt, trying this again. Recommend you do not torque the upper a-arm cross shaft botls until the engine is in and on the ground. Put a note on your winshield so you don't forget. There is a good article by Wes I believe that walks you through this in the tech reference section. Have a good read. Enjoy.....

Same thing with the front sway bay, if you have one. Finish tightening when the car is on the ground with the motor in it.

Found the article, good stuff in there :)

I'll be sure to put this on the list for tightening later too.

Thank you both for your input!~ These are things I would have never known to do.
