: Bought some Girl Scout cookies today
Cameano Mar 16th, 09, 2:09 AM So I was cornered by a little girl holding a box of Girl Scout cookies today, and the box was green. I told her if those were thin mints, I'd buy them. I was waiting to hear $6 or more, but she says $4. Nice. Okay. So I smuggled them in the house and hid them. Broke out the box just now (it's safe, wife's in the other room :D ), opened it expecting the plastic tray like they've had the past 10 years or more, which takes up space better left for cookies, but instead found this.

A full box of cookies! Awesome! Maybe they actually listened to customers for once?

70ChevelleRagtop Mar 16th, 09, 8:21 AM They have a new baking company manufacturing them - that might explain the different packaging. Some of the varieties taste a little different but are still very good!! The thin mints appearance wise look slightly different than they used to.
Mmmmmm mmmmmmm good. (I've already eaten my fair share of them this year!)

Exactly what happens in our house. Lots of room to stash them in there, too. Hide 'em behind some unknown frozen bulky items, and they'll be yours to enjoy at leisure.

For that minimum daily lead requirement!;)
70_Malibu Mar 16th, 09, 10:04 AM I've never understood the appeal of their mass produced, assembly line cookies. They're not that great to me, but at least the profits go to a good cause. Do you guys flip over Keebler cookies, too? Blech.

I was told they changed the name and don't call them Samoas anymore. More Politically Correct BS??
marooned Mar 16th, 09, 10:26 AM I hide things I don't want to be seen in plain site, usually on top of the fridge. Works everytime.

No, I just look for the kid in the cookie jar!:D
Last year there must have been 20 people selling for their kids at my wifes work! I think she bought a box from every one of them!:(

Okay, I'll say it. That annoys me to the heavens! IMO, the kids should be selling them, not the parents. By doing that, it relieves the children of any responsibility and allows them to have the parents do all of the work. If the kids don't want to sell them, then their parents should buy the entire lot....the whole Magilla.
Since we don't have any children, (yes, by our choice) why should we have to shell out our cash to almost everyone when we cannot benefit somewhat in return?
Hey, don't get me wrong here, I don't mind buying cookies or candy here and there, but it seems that everyone is selling that stuff for their kids all the time, at inflated prices, and I feel obligated to buy from them each time. But no more.....enough already, I/we buy a few things each year and that's it.
Good cause or not, I'm sick and tired of it, besides, what the hell are we going to do with boxes upon boxes of cookies? No, we eat very little of that crap here.
I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore! :D

I'll pay the $4, I'd probably have paid the $6 if she'd said so. There's a big difference between that 5 y.o. girl selling cookies outside of a store all day and the normal weekend "fundraiser" a couple hundred yards away of sports team teenagers standing out on the corner with minnow nets collecting money from drivers for nothing in return. Those kids are learning they can make money by begging, just like the bums do during the week on the same corner.
70 SS LS-5 Mar 16th, 09, 3:46 PM I won't buy GS cookies from an adult shilling for their kid but OH BOY will I buy a whole bunch of thinmints and peanut butter cookies from a girl scout herself. I LOVE the thinmints and peanut butter ones.
I have to give most of them away though, because if I don't I will just eat them like a madman.
