I understand that SS made in 69 or after can have a "136XX.." code as an authentic SS instead of the traditional "138xxx.." that are made in Canada. Also have a paint code 72, which I suppose is indigneous to SS as well.
Is this correct in you guys opinions?

Steve, in 1969 the Super Sports could be had on models 13637 & 13667 which were Malibus and also on models 13427 & 13437 which were 300 Deluxes. SS option also available on El Caminos.
The colors 72 (Monaco Orange) and 76 (Daytona Yellow) were not available on the regular Chevelle models, but could be had on SS's, COPO's and special orders. On the SS's the color code will show on the Trim Plate, for COPO's those colors will have "--" on the Trim Plate.
Hope this helps.

Hi Steve,
How about posting the VIN number and cowl tag information off the car in question and we can answer your questions.
You make mention of "I understand that SS made in 69 or after can have a "136XX.." code as an authentic SS instead of the raditional "138xxx.." that are made in Canada"
So I'm guessing the car in question is Canadian built? I look forward to your reply.

1969 Chevelle Malibus built in Oshawa are still 136xx models. I have a tag on a 69 Convertible at http://www.chevellestuff.com/69velle/tags/tt_os02.jpg .
There were still 138xx models in 1969 but those were the Concours wagon (13836 and 13846). The Concours wagon continue in 1970 and 1971 and the new Monte Carlo was also a 138xx car with 13857.
So, there still were 138xx models in the Chevelle lineup, just not Malibus or SS optioned cars. The 138xx model Chevelles were SS396 cars from 66-68 and the 138xx model SS was unique from the 136xx model Malibu.
