Did they make a 283 ss convert?Yes, as well as 327's and even 6-cyls. In 64 and 65, the SS option was strictly a trim package but did have a separate model of 138xx for the 65 and 458xx for the 64, as opposed to the Malibu 136xx (65) and (64) 456xx model. In 1966, 67, and 68, the SS was also a separate model (138xx) but included the 396 engine. In 1969, it returned to an option on the Malibu and 300 Deluxe but still carried the 134xx and 136xx models. In 70 the SS option could only be ordered on the 136xx model Malibu but still mandated the big block (396/402/454). In 71 and 72, the SS was still an option on the 136xx Malibu but could now be ordered with the 350-2 and 350-4 engines as well as the big bock.
