I call this project the Musclecar Ministry, and with a lot of help from the director of the men's ministry at our church, we've located a project car and we're about to close the deal. It's not a Chevelle though, but we'll probably restore a Chevelle at some point in the future.

The car we found is a 71 Dodge Demon. I know, I know, a group of Christian men restoring a car called a Demon! Go ahead, get it out of your systems. The body is in great shape with minimal rust. It will need a trunk pan and repair panel on the driver's side floor, but the rest of the car is solid. It has a 318 in it now, but I hope to able to locate a 340. If I can't find a decently priced 340, we'll probably drop in a 360.

I'll be leading this project, and I'm going to extend an invitation to any of you in the Dallas Fort Worth area who may want to help out with this. We're trying to find a shop in the mid-cities area where it will be centrally located for all of us who live in the Keller, Grapevine, HEB area. Once we locate a suitable shop, job one is to get it in and get it stripped down.

A lot of things came together after I presented this idea to men's ministry director. Within a week, a fellow church member came forward and offered to buy the car. Within two weeks, we found the car. Now we just need a shop. I know the hand of God is in this. He's using it to build and strengthen our fellowship, to reach out to the community when we're ready to show the car, and of course, to help us raise money for our new church. So many things came together when I stopped trying to do this by myself. And yes, there is a lesson there also.

I'll post pictures later. But I am so looking forward to this!

I have known people who rented a self-storage unit to use as a workshop.

I remember a story that went around about a minister that caught hell from his parisheners for buying one when they first came out!:D

you might have started a little smaller, a lot of v.a. groups etc. raffle off engines. you don't have as may logistics issues, with a decent stand, storage isn't too big a problem, and turn over is quicker. build decent engines and you may turn two to three a year. a car in the shape your talking may take a while, and then selling enough tickets to pay for it, is another issue.

i do like a decent demon, and even though a 340 or 360 is preferable, there are plenty of 318 parts that will make it a stout street car...

good luck, hopefully you'll be able to give us update pics....

I wish you and the group many blessings as you work on this car together. The working on the car together will be a great bonding/fellowship opportunity.
Great idea.

And now we have a shop! Anyone got a rotisserie I can borrow for a while?

It all came together yesterday. One of our church members passed away last year I believe it was, and his wife said he would have absolutely loved to have been a part of this project. He had a nice little shop that he used for his own projects and it was sitting empty.

This won't be our only car, it'll be the first of many. It'll be a long time before I'll be able to build one for myself, but in many ways, this is even better. I cannot wait to get the team together and get started!
