I noticed today that my the inner fender on the driver's side is metal and the passenger side is plastic. Was this a common thing?

Brian, I have seen one metal and one plastic before, with the left one metal and the right one plastic as you have said. The battery acid will rust out the right inner fender if it is metal. It is also possible the car could have been wrecked and the left inner fender was replaced.

There's no pattern for the Metal/plastic. I've seen 2 M, 2 P, 1 each (either side) I had a 72 that had a plastic DR side and a metal P side.

my drivers side was metal and my passanger side was plastic on mine. got a lower panel patch for the drivers side metal one because like Ray mentioned the battery acid got hungry and ate it. I would pick one or the other personally or it might look weird

I plan on going plastic for both sides.

Just an FYI on the plastic inners, the repro ones really don't fit well and tend to crack upon installation.

maybe I will try to find an original metal one for the passenger side as the plastic one I have now is cracked in two places. I will try to fix it first before I get to serious about looking.
