I want to remove the chrome plating (or what ever it is) from the dome light base on my 67 chevelle. The reason the chrome is causing the interior lights to stay on all the time and I have scraped as much as I can off and the problem keeps reoccurring. So my thought here is remove all the chrome or whatever it is and paint the base black and call it done. Any ideas here- bleach, oven cleaner or something else?

Clean the area of chrome off, just where the screws go into the bezel for munting, and also the terminal and you will be okay, it is normal to have this problem. I have heard of this many times. Its plastic, so just use a small grinder/sandpaper/file,
