Was offered a car the other day. Price is right. Haven't seen it yet. This is what I have been told 2dr. hard top
L48 300 hp. 350. 4blt., Turbo 350, 12 bolt open rearend, PS, PWR Disc, a/c.
any of this sound like stuff that is supposed to be in the car? Haven't seen it yet, that is just what he said. No carb, rough car, straight body. Front suspension is torn out for new bushings and ball joints. Needs a carb and battery. He claims it runs. I can't confirm. I know the guy fairly well. He is the kind that would say "Ran when the carb was removed" and has said that. He only wants a couple bucks for it. I'm ready for a new project and this would be my first major one. Except my turbo charged CA. smog legal ranger.
Thanks in advance. I look forward to seeing all of the "READ THE FAQ" responses that typically get associated with ones first post. smile.gif

I don't know if the L48 was particularly a 4blt or not, but for most street applications, a 2-bolt main is sufficient. If the engine is suppose to be original, check for the suffix code CRE; that's for a L48 w/TH350. The F41 was an option on 13637-67 and I'd imagine the 12-bolt rear would be as well or it may even have been standard with the 300hp engine. I'm sure '70 gurus here would know. All the other options mentioned would have been available. G ood luck!

Well for what he wants, I'm going to get it and at the very least put the bushings and steering linkage in it along with a carb and battery. Blow all the spyder webs out and send it down the road. But chances are I'll throw money at it until it's what I want. smile.gif
I've got a motor manual that covers all that stuff. I saw that code listed. Figured that is what it was supposed to be. I'll have pics by early next week. I have to go take pictures of where it is at so we can figure out how to ge it out to a trailer with no way to put front tires on it. Probably strap a beam axle under it and start rolling.

I think the 12 bolt came with the 350, or at least the 300 hp variety. The 6 cyl and 307 cars got the 10 bolt. A 300 hp 350 should not have 4 bolt mains.
BTW, welcome to the site smile.gif No smart remarks about your first post because it was concise, specific, and you obviously have a good idea what you're inquiring about graemlins/hurray.gif

My '70 originally came with the 350 L65 (2 bbl), TH350 and a 10 bolt open, of course.
But it did have the factory installed rear control arm braces and no rear sway bar. :confused:
L65 = 10 bolt;
L48 = 12 bolt. This was true '69 through '72.
The L48 had 4-bolt mains as long as it had the 10.25:1 compression. For '71 the compression went down to 8.5:1 and the 4-bolt mains were dropped (there may have been a few 4-bolt main versions to use up inventory). Cast cranks & pistons regardless of compression, plus 1.94" intake valves & 1.50" exhaust valves. The cam was the same between the L65 & L48 (& LM1 & L14 307...)

A wealth of knowledge. I've been reading my motor manual it said that the 70 48 was 10.25:1.
CRE was is the code it says in the book. But with any car with unknown or questionable history I won't know until I crack it open and look at what is on the inside.
I paid for it today so I guess I am officially an owner. Now I will have to come up with a new screen name. smile.gif
$250 and a Jaw Breaker. What a deal. I'll be taking pics of it in a couple hours. Pick it up next weekend. Have to get it on a car trailer with no front suspension. Should be fun. Don't want to rebuild the car in front of his house.
