: SS RPO code...were they all the same?

If you took a build sheet from a 69 SS Chevelle, SS Camaro and SS Nova, would all 3 read Z15 for the SS package?....or was this a Chevelle only code?

I believe in 1969 the SS option for the Chevelle was Z25. I'll let the 70 Gurus "Flame" me if I'm wrong here, but I "think" in 1970 the SS454 was Z15 and the SS396 was still Z25. My fire extinguisher is at the ready :D

Don't know if the SS option on the other models had the same RPO.

I just went through all the '70 build sheets I have samples of (KC, Atl, Balt, Van Nuys) that are 396 equipped and only KC lists both the 'ZL3 SS 396 CONV' and 'Z25 SS396 PKG'. Atlanta, Balt, and VN only lists the 'ZL3 SS 396 CONV' in block 107. All 454 examples I have for '70 are listed as 'Z15 454 SS (or SS 454) PKG'.

I only have one for a '69 and that's a COPO so it's no help.

The Nova SS was Z26 and the Camaro SS was Z27. Did you know that the Impala SS427 was Z24?

Whoops, meant Z25. I fat fingered the key and didn't see it.

And we all know what the Z28 option was.

I once owned a Z15, Z34 and now own a Z71.

In 1970 Z15 was SS454 but in 1971 on it was the SS option pkg without any engine designation. So a 1971 Z15 Chevelle could have a 350, 402 or 454 engine. Z25 was dropped. This info from 1971 Product order guide for Chevelle, El Camino and Monte Carlo.

Here is the current RPO partial list (all GM models).

Z02 PERFORMANCE PACKAGE TURBO
Z03 APPEARANCE PACKAGE ANNIVERSARY
Z04 SALES PACKAGE RALLY
Z05 CONVENIENCE PKG
Z06 PERFORMANCE PACKAGE HARD TOP SPORT COUPE
Z07 PERFORMANCE PACKAGE AGGRESSIVE SPORT

Z14 MERCHANDISED PKG CX
Z15 APPEARANCE PACKAGE COMMEMORATIVE EDITION (2002 Firebird and Camaro)
Z16 PERFORMANCE PACKAGE Z06 COMMEMORATIVE EDITION
Z17 MERCHANDISED PKG BUICK CXL
Z18 APPEARANCE PACKAGE EUROPEAN COMMEMORATIVE EDITION
Z19 PERFORMANCE PACKAGE COUPE
Z25 APPEARANCE PACKAGE 50TH ANNIVERSARY (LIMITED EDITION) CORVETTE

Our '69 SS396 Chevelle was Baltimore built. The GM of Canada Documentation shows both ZL3 and Z25.

The 69 sheets I have show both ZL3 and Z25 SS 396 with variations in specific wording.
Framingham - ZL3 SS396 CONVERSN and Z25 SUPER SPORT
Fremont - ZL3 SS396 CONV and Z25 SUPER SPORT
Kansas City - ZL3 CONV SS396 and Z25 SS 396

Baltimore is kinda screwy:
* No ZL3 or Z25 code on either of 2 396 (L34) cars
* No ZL3 or Z25 code on COPO but shows engine as L78
* ZL3 CONV SS396 and Z25 SS396 code on L78 non-COPO car

So, even if you took build sheets from 4 of the 5 plants for Chevelles, they aren't going to read the same but ZL3 and Z25 were the only two codes used on Chevelles in 1969.

In 1970, only Kansas City used both ZL3 and Z25. Al others only used ZL3; but again with different wording. Pays to be specific about the plant when talking about build sheets.

1970-71 Monte Carlo SS option Z20Isn't that just for the SS 454 option? I know Dan Carr's page http://www.designscomputed.com/auto_pub/a_body_68_72_detail.html states, "The 1971 report also shows that there were 19,293 Chevelles and El Caminos built with the RPO Z15 SS package (the Monte Carlo had a different RPO Z20 SS package)..." and while it doesn't mention 70 or 72, I think the same holds true.

Not sure what you are asking.
The 70-71 Monte Carlo SS option was Z20. The SS monte was only a 454. There wasn't anything else in 70-71 for an SS monte.

...that the Z20 was a 454 Monte Carlo code. Adding that to the ZL3/Z25 thread confused me a bit.

Did some more searching in stuff I have and discovered that the RPO Z15 wasn't necessarily a 454 option and varied from year to yearl. Not only in the verbiage (which is typical between plants) but in 71/72, it must have been in some plant's computer a variety of ways.
