: suggestions on how to ID a 70 SS 454
BOOCing Feb 11th, 04, 11:08 AM Going to look at a possible LS6 or LS5 tomorrow and was looking for input on how to ID this car as a real numbers matching car. I got the basics of what I need to look for by searching previous posts, but I just want all the info I can to make sure I'm not getting taken.
Rick_Nelson Feb 11th, 04, 2:09 PM All kidding aside, if you are about to pay LS6 or LS5 money, I suggest hiring someone to authenticate the car for you. There are just too many things to look for and none are conclusive. This money would be well spent.
elcamino Feb 11th, 04, 5:57 PM I would agree with Rick. Unless the car is an original unmolested car, it could be a big risk. I would ask to see proof of the car authenticity, don't just take the sellers word. True LS6 cars sell for big $$ as does most documented SS cars, if its going cheap be careful it may not be what it appears.
BOOCing Feb 11th, 04, 8:32 PM Thanks for the suggestions guys. Mike actually the car is in Michigan do you happen to know anyone that I could take it to look at for added security?
Thanks
Luis Feb 11th, 04, 9:37 PM I also agree with Rick and El Camino. Make sure the seller has documentation such as, build sheet, P-O-P, window sticker, invoice or Purchase Order. If it has A/C is not a LS6. Look and see if it has the RPO Z15 on cowl tag. If it does, it's then a Canadian built 454. These cars are extremely easy to clone, if you are paying "mucho dinero" you really need to do your homework.

Thanks Where in Michigan?
I live over 500 miles from the Detroit area in the UP near Houghton-Hancock and Lake Superior. There is only 1 place I can think of in the UP and that is in Iron Mountain, Randy Hallman Specialty Cars.
Resq302 Feb 12th, 04, 7:04 PM How would you be able to tell if the car is a true SS from the P-O-P? To my knowlege, the POP only has areas for the VIN, Carb, Engine #, Rear axle #, build month code, Trans #, P/S, P/B, Radio group, disc brake code, A/C, P/W, and P/S. Unless the book I have is wrong, I see no designation for where it would say if it was an SS or not.
alss Feb 12th, 04, 7:34 PM It has the engine code...tells alot about a car.
