I have an early December built 70 SS. I am looking for a date correct m-21 trans. What range of dates would be acceptable assuming it is a 12B car?

I have some 70 POPs and major components like engine, trans, rear are as much as 4 months difference in dates like an October rear end in a February car. I have a sample of an October car with a mid August (15) Muncie. Another with a September engine and rear end, February (16) Muncie and March assembly.

It's very interesting that you mention that. My car has a 12b build and an October 29 date stamp on the block.

I was concerned when I bought the car, but the vin is clearly stamped on the oil filter pad. I bought the car from the an individual that had the car for 12 years and did not even know the vin was stamped by the oil filter until a couple years ago. As you can imagine, he was very relieved when he checked and found that it matched.

The rear is original, but the trans is an April 1970 build with no vin stamped. Is it uncommon to have a trans with a date code and no vin?

Anyone out there want to trade an Oct-Dec7 built m-21 for an April built one?

Thanks for the help thus far.
