Hey guys
Someone was asking about a US Malibu 400 for 38000 that needed work without the original engine. Here's a rare Canadian 71 Malibu 400 for what I think is really good money considering it's claimed to numbers matching and 1-91 according to GM of Canada docs.

Address: Manitoba, MB View map (http://winnipeg.kijiji.ca/c-ViewMap?AdId=112263420)
Location: Winnipeg
Date Listed: 09-Mar-09

71 Chevelle Malibu 400, 402 (396 motor) Numbers matching with vin, 400

Buckets and console which were put in by the orginal owner after he
bought the car, color matching. orginal radio, nothing butchered. Would
not take much to safety. New floor and quarters done professional.
The cons are needs exhaust pipes from the mufflers, needs new carpet,
and rocker has a soft spot on one side, some rips in interior, new
carpet and pipes this car can be safetied and be on the road this
summer. Will Safety for right price. Best offer over $12,000 or will
trade for a pre 69 Camaro, Nova or Chevelle, will pay difference up to a
$20,000 car.
This is a affordable investment and can have a load of fun driving it,
very rare car (rarer than a SS) 1 in about a hundred made in canada.

Steve, it looks like the car is going to need a pretty fair amount of work, soft rockers are going to lead to other things. It needs interior work, the engine bay looks like it has a considerable amount of rust (maybe just surface rust).

If it is a real malibu 400 with the original engine and trans and rear, it would be a nice car when finished but I don't see this as a bargain.

Although if the $12,000 is Canadian, that would make it less for a U.S.A. buyer, due to the exchange rate.

It does need work but interior is pretty easy and it's rarity for someone looking for a Malibu 400 is a big plus. 1 of 91 with LS3 and M40 is pretty rare. 3:31 posi makes it cruising friendly which is nice. He's asking 12 so figure you talk him down to 10. Figure in exchange and your looking at $7600 US. Not bad for a big block numbers matching car of this rarity. Would I buy it? Nope. Not my style or color combo but as I said for a guy looking for a Malibu 400 it's a good deal and much better then the ad posted before that I refered to. IMHO.

1 of 91 that was for sale in Canada. Not the total production of North America.

Yes I know thats for Canada only. But as far as I'm concerned this adds a lot of value. No US cars can be documented unless they can be traced back 40 years. With fake block stamps, trim tags, epoxy casting dates, and build sheets the Canadian pedigree adds more value in my opinion. You can't even say how many were built in the States because theres no records. Thats the beauty of the GM of Canada docs. You know what you have and what was original including block stamping numbers etc. Besides how often do you see a Malibu 400 from either country? Most were probably converted to SS clones like Heavy Chevy's were. Plus most Canadian cars have rusted away a long time ago. As I said in the original post, for someone LOOKING for a Mailbu 400 this car is rareand at roughly 7600 US a good deal. Thats all.

P.S. The only rust I see in the engine compartment is a little surface rust on the brake reservoir. Everything else just looks a little dusty.

It left the factory in Burnt Orange with a white 2-tone, 2.73 gears and power drum brakes.
