I just purchased a 1972 Malibu 2dr. I found a protecto plate in the glove box and would like help decoding it. I'm interested in engine, gear ratio and options. Here's what I got:

1D37F2R557631
T0317CTK B2C16
CGH0771 B 1 3 1 (bowtie)C
(Name & Address)

I would be willing to scan or photograph plate if it would help.
Any help would be appreciated!

Any help would be appreciated! Here's what I can offer...
Line 1:
1D37F2R557631 (VIN)
~ Chevrolet (1), Malibu (D), 2 door sport coupe (37), 307 2-bbl (F), 1972 (2), Arlington, TX (R) assembly, 557631 vehicle build sequence number starting with number 500001 (57,631st Chevelle built)

Line 2:
T0317CTK (engine)
~ Tonawanda engine assembly, March (03), 17th, 307-2bbl/130hp/TH350 (CTK suffix)

B2C16 (transmission code)
~ Cleveland TH350 (B), 1972 (2), March (C) 16th

CGH0771 (rear axle)
~ Chevrolet Gear and Axle (C) 2.73 ratio (GH), March 18 (077th day of the calendar year), day shift (1)

'B' is carburetor source; Bay City
1st '1' ~ Power Steering
2nd '3' ~ Radio (types not specified)
3rd '1' ~ Four season A/C
[b]Bowtie[b] GM Trademark
'C' is assembly month of March.

Looks like all the major parts came together at just about the right time. I'd almost bet the trim tag will have a final assembly date code of 03D (?)

I currently have a couple of 72 POPs at http://www.chevellestuff.com/72velle/72_pop.htm but I'm always looking for more for reference. If you can get a scan or clear .jpg photo somewhat like these two, I'd be happy to post it with the others and keep in online for reference material along with anyother paperwork or trim tag shot you might run across. I always blank out the name and address of original buyer to protect them. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Thanks for all the information. I will see if I can get a scan of the plate and maybe a shot of the trim tag and other paperwork and get in touch with you.
I do have one more question:
My Protect-o-plate is glued to the warranty pamplet. Written in pen on the front is the Vin# and "Gold and Tan Chevelle" then the following numbers. Do they mean anything to anyone?

91P9-1453
E5000R89 (or) F5000R89
200

Thanks

My guess is not to you. Could be the dealer's stocking info or something like that. The sheet my Elky POP is glued to has '7127DT' written in a Sharpie-type ink pen.

Another I have has:
429
YB-3520
350 2
VA 3xxx

Others I'v seen have similar writings on them.
