Can anyone help me decode my chevelle? In the middle of a frame off and want to be in the right direction.

VIN# 1D37H2B536870

cowl tag;

ST 72 13637 B267967 BDY

In the upper right hand corner of the cowl tag in-line with the raised line is 16.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dale, again thanks for the help. This car has been in my family since 1979 and was never touched except for paint, wheels and engine change. Everything on the car (dash, guages, emblems, power front disc, 12 bolt etc.) points to a SS and my brother bought it from the original owner and says it is a true SS. Is there any way I can verify this? Is there anything that will verify it is not?

Again, thanks for the info and help. The links you provided have a ton of info, wow.

There's nothing in the VIN or on the Trim Tag that will indicate whether it's an SS or not. If you could be lucky enough to locate the build sheet somewhere in the car, that would do it. Since you're doing a frame-off resto, if there's one to be found, you'll get it. Gauges and disc brakes were optional on non-SS cars, so they are not really any help either.
