WAX-UM Mar 9th, 09, 8:08 PM Sorry not a Chevelle but I have a close female friend thats husband was having an affiar and skipped town and is now getting a divorce. She knows nothing about cars and asked me to help her sell it. No pics yet.
Kit was made by Classic Roadsters has a healthy fuel injected 5.0, 4 wheel disc brakes, 5 lug conversion, heater ,T-5 tranny with scatter shield 8.8 posi rearend 16 inch Halibrand wheels, wipers, wind wings, ceramic coated headers and side pipes, leather interior 5k miles since build, Car is British Green with black interior. I did drive the car yesterday it runs and drives very well, no shakes or rattles and drives straight at 70mph. "You would never think it was a kit car. Very very nice detail 5k miles since build.
She is thinking 28k but I personally think it worth more, I really want to help her she lost her first husband from death and the second one by affair, The proceeds of this sale will hopefully 1/2 go to exhusband and pay off her mortgage since she now has a single income.
Hotch Mar 9th, 09, 8:28 PM She should sell it for $1.00 just to get back at that cheatin' SOB. I can be reached at...
WAX-UM Mar 9th, 09, 8:32 PM Question?
or ad?
Question, I want to spend a weekend detailing the car and taking goods pics before listing it, I really think car maybe worth more like 32-36 and would like to see her get what its worth.
I'm not really into kit cars myself but I would think her price is even too high myself at this time. (if that's the question)
but then what do I know
oldtimebaseballfan Mar 9th, 09, 10:05 PM Not to burst your bubble but they are all over ebay and other sites.
Prices ranging from:
$9,100.
16,000.
20,000
23,000
26,000 with a big block
32,000 with a big block
The only ones that have a bid are the ones 20k and under.
FancyBoy Mar 9th, 09, 10:18 PM I've been monitoring used Ac Cobra kits for some time now, and her figure of 25k is more realistic. Judging by the engine, it most likely doesn't have the IRS. These cars are generally not as desirable as the 427+IRS cars. If she has the time, she may see 30 or even 35k depending on what else is on the market (same car listed from 35 to 50k).
Generally speaking, the 427 cars with a solid axle will see 30 to 35k realistically. Cars with the IRS + 427 will be pushing 35k to 40k realistically. These cars could see 50k if the seller is not stressed for time.
I already have a personalized license plate in mind.
FancyBoy Mar 9th, 09, 10:29 PM ...and that is if they're all fiberglass cars. Aluminum bodied versions demand much more..and would most likely also have the 427 + IRS.
Also, there are the imitation kit cars, using mustang, MGB, and Austin Healeys as donors (what a waste). These are generally listed at under 10k. Realistically most of these would sell at around 5k.
CRUZN69 Mar 10th, 09, 3:42 AM Leisure Industries, the company that built the kit is gone. They filed BK.
clean7t Mar 10th, 09, 10:15 PM When I had mine I started the sale at 25k and continually dropped it till 17K. At 20K I had a bunch of people look at it but empty promises. I knew mine would be hard to sell since it had some race car history to is and was now a street car. After severl months I basically gave it away at 15.5K. I had to get rid of it due to a child on the way and it wouldn't hold a car seat ;) I do miss that car but the kids are so much more rewarding, bsides I have more cars now. If you can get pics I can give you a better idea. I had mine for several years and was involved in clubs with it. Given the market and the manufacturer is out of business I would say anywhere from 15K to 25K if she can deal with a lot of headaches and hold out. I tried selling mine for almost a year, even then it went all the way across the country. Mine needed a few things from being used and I new it though I was not ready to put 5k into it to get 7k or so more out of it.
Hope this helps
Tom
sg5492 Mar 10th, 09, 10:45 PM 15 years my friend's dad bought a nice Cobra kit car from a guy that owned a body shop. It is highly detailed with a big block (454 Chevy) auto, red and black, full tube chassis, ton of chrome parts, very nice car. With less than 10,000 miles on it (today). Back then he paid $22,500 for it and it had 4,500 miles on it. He still has it.
Today being that it is an older car but still very nice if he wanted to sell it, I don't think he could get more than $18,500 for it.

Not sure on the quality of the Classic Roadsters kit, many kits don't "look" right (proportionally) to someone thats really been looking (I have several friends that have been looking for one).
Also, the F.I. small block might make it a great driver, but alot of buyers are going to want a BB, to look more correct...
With the economy the way it is, I think her 28K might be high, but maybe a good place to start.
I have recently seen some nice ones for sale in the high 20's/low 30's, and they were all for sale for quite a while...
