This VIN is stamped on a M-21 I removed from a 70 Chevelle. It does not match the car VIN and I cannot determine wher it came from. It is date coded Dec 15, 1969.

Anybody out there who can figure this one out????

Camaro started the vin at 500,001+ and were also made at Van Nuys. The 69 model Camaro was made I read untill mid Nov 69 due to delays in 70 style changes. But if it was a late 69 Camaro trans it seems the date would be Nov and the year (in the vin)9 not 0.?? Only car I can find has a high sequence number.
Edit: I just re-read your post and see the vin is 16+ or is it 6+??

The VIN is 160149. Sorry about the extra "X"
Is there any way we can confirm the model line beginning with or having a 6 in it????

For the 1970 model year, Van Nuys was making only Chevelles/El Caminos, Monte Carlos and Camaros. Rene pointed out that the Camaro VIN Sequence # (or last 6 digits) started at 500,000. Chevelles/El Camino and Monte Carlos started at 100,000. Since your last 6 digits begin with '1' (160149), your tranny came from a Chevelle/El Camino or Monte Carlo. I haven't heard of many 4 speed Monte Carlos, so I'd bet that yours came from a Chevelle/El Camino.

This would make sense but it sure is a high number 60,149th vehicle. Does anyone have a VIN for a Jan car with a VIN near this. That would validate it. :D
