Bought a nice 67 steering column and decided to go ahead and pull the dash to paint etc...as with this project everything has been apart before it is butchered with missing screws etc.
Is there a way to check a fuel gauge, clock, and speedometer before reassmbly?
There used to be a speedo shop in town but went out of business when the electronic age hit.
I assume that the upper dash is flat black and the lower section is an eggshell black??
How about the inside windhield pillar post trim?
Seems like a flat black would be rough and "chalky"??
Thanks,
jim

The factory used lacquer for the interior metal. Mix it up in a paint gun and spray. Finished. Now add flattening agant to the black and spray your upper dash. Done.
If you buff it you'll screw it up.

Thanks...no gloss black upper dash and inside pillar trim and then gloss for lower dash.
how bout the tops of the doors above the door panels? Is that the same color as the upper dash?

On my car the tops of the doors were body color which was marina blue.....I had aqua marine blue interior so there wasn't a big color difference between the door tops and the door panels. As far as I know they were body color but a black interior might be a different story.

top of the doors should look just like the dash (60% gloss) which would be straight gloss black lacquer sprayed and left to dry as it is. 0% gloss towards the windshield on the upper dash.

You can check your speedo by spinning the little square drive hole somehow. The needle should move and eventaully spin over a digit on the odometer. You can spin the odometer back to zero if you wanted to at this point with a little more disassembly. The clock just needs a ground and power to work.........probably needs to have the points cleaned inside to get it working again. Buff out your plastic gauge lens, dust off the faces (don't spray any cleaner on them, # smear) and paint your needles with "caution red" paint. New blubs in everything while you got it out.

thanks sir,
did what you said..speedo is noisy.
i guess it can be repaired...i do see that there are reproductions made but not sure they are quality and will last.
I'll change out all the bulbs and clean everything up.
i recall testing the fuel dash unit by disconnecting tank sender and gauge going past full and likewise grounding the wire and gauge going to empty....do i have that right?

You have the fuel gauge test correct.

Thanks for the help.
Raining and cold ---cold in the garage...where is spring?
I priced out all the parts and trim (NPD) I want to complete the dash...almost $550!
No need to put it back together looking bad.
Need a cheapo radio to fill the hole...it won't be something I listen to often since I plan to change to a 4.10 rear....will hear the motor over the music.
Any suggestions?
