: My LAST Color Thread!! 1970 Red or Blue
bri2203 Mar 7th, 09, 12:40 PM Now that my 1970 Chevelle coupe is in final prime, I have to make a final decision on color.
I like the idea of making a chevelle look stealthy but It will have to wait for another car. I also like coper(otmaic orange) but it only looks good with white stripes which I don;t care for.
Color #1, Similar to astro/Nasa Blue I would go with Pontiac G8 Stryker blue or Corvette Jetstream blue
Cons- I don't care for white stripes so the stripes would have to be black.
Pro- Easy to maintaince color that still pops. Not as common as red or black. What wheels to use?

http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m316/bri2203/69lemans.jpg
Color #1, Cranberry Red with black(maybe graphite) stripes.
Cons- Very Popular and the guy I know who rubs out cars said they are more maintance than most colors except black.
Pros- All red/black chevelle look great
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m316/bri2203/DSC02784.jpg
The other challenge is wheels. I will likely use the same wheels that muscle car jogn is using in the above pricture. However I am open to painted them a darker grey if needed.

PULEASE PULEASE don't paint it red! How many MORE red 70 / 72 CHevelles can the world stand????? IMHO NOT ONE MORE!!!!!!!!!!
There are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many nice NEW colors out there. Some of the mid to dark grey metalic colors from Mercedes and BMW as well as some of the "American" car makers or Lexus or others are VERY nice. You can get a modern look that is at the same time suggestive of the silver colors and grey colors of the original paints.
WHATEVER EVER YOU DO DON"T GO WITH RED...........PULEASE!
grandsport Mar 7th, 09, 2:07 PM Blue.
SixActual Mar 7th, 09, 2:11 PM Jet Black.
grandsport Mar 7th, 09, 2:16 PM Jet Black.
I don't think thats an option.:noway:

Jet Black.
I have an excuse every color out there.
Black- Body needs to be perfectly straight and way they are way too hard to keep clean.
Silver- Great Color... also requires addition body works to remove fine sand scratches. We usually sand them to 800 if we are painting silver. How many silver daily drivers do you see?Lots
White- Looks nice with black stripes but its hides the chrome and people think you hiding imperfections in the body.
Light green- Ugly
Yellow and Orange- Personally too flashy for me
Dark Blue(Fathom)/Green- higher maintance colors, but mainly they look best with white stripes and I don't like white stripes
Charcoal- see above
Purple/Pink/Brown- Do I need a reason?
Primer/Satin Black- Looks unfinished
SixActual Mar 7th, 09, 2:37 PM I don't think thats an option.:noway:
Then take it to MAACO! :D
furball8994 Mar 7th, 09, 2:53 PM Brian. How about the Corvette blue with Graphite stripes.....
bri2203 Mar 7th, 09, 3:39 PM Brian. How about the Corvette blue with Graphite stripes.....
Its definatly an option.
The ZR1 Corvettes have a carbon fiber roof and spoiler which is similar in hue to graphite. However I was thinking black because the grill will be blacked out, and intierior will be black. I could make it so the spokes of the wheels are graphite like the stripes.
Stripe considerations
Black, graphite, ......... and maybe silver or dark blue
Check signature. Go Blue!
You can do black strips and black interior.

What color is that? I think it looks great.maybe great enough to consider white stripes
Bryan59EC Mar 7th, 09, 4:05 PM Both of my Elkies WERE red when I got them.
WERE
The 59 is now Black/Pewter------this will be my LAST black car
The 66 is now 97/8 Corvette Bright Blue
What color is that? I think it looks great.maybe great enough to consider white stripes
Thanks! It's called Arrival Blue Metallic. It's an '03 Chevy truck color. Pic doesn't do it justice. It's very deep, with lots of metal. Strips are HOK Pearl.
Derek69SS Mar 7th, 09, 4:59 PM Mist Green!
I voted blue though, as there's just too many red 70s. :)
musclecarjohn Mar 7th, 09, 6:16 PM These cars look GREAT in Cranberry Red...that's probably why you see so many of them.
Since you used my original Cranberry Red car as an example,lol...you know how I voted.
I do like that Blue you posted however,I had an '72 El Camino about that same shade w/White stripes and that car got more attention than anything I owned.Something about that shade playing off all the chrome and brightwork,it attracted a crowd like bees to honey.
You can't go wrong either way...but I vote CR.:beers:
spdracer256 Mar 7th, 09, 10:36 PM Blue.. no question
70chevelle406 Mar 8th, 09, 1:12 AM I would go with the blue. My car currently is at paint and body and I am going with Lexus's 09 Charcoal color.
70SS540 Mar 8th, 09, 10:42 AM Here's GM Victory Red to throw more confusion in. I really struggled on the color for my car. Sometimes I wish I would have taken it back to the original color which was Black Cherry. It was red when I purchased it so I stuck with it. Good luck on your choice! 70s look good in just about every color.

BLURAT72 Mar 8th, 09, 8:08 PM blue
AXEMAN39 Mar 8th, 09, 10:01 PM My old 70 was blue with white stripes, white top and white interior, its quite striking.
bri2203 Mar 8th, 09, 10:12 PM Great! Now I have to decide between black, white, or charcoal stripes or no stripes. GRR
What color stripes? ( I think it needs stripes) I don't want the car to be a rainbow.
I was planning on doing a black interior, but If i do white stripes I would lean toward a blue interior.(white isn't happening)

Chevelle408 Mar 9th, 09, 1:25 AM Blue with white stripes! Mine is Fathom blue and the upkeep isn't all that bad IMO.
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f105/zachschevelle/DSCN0843-1.jpg
The rule of thumb I always heard is that the stripes should be the same color as the interior, at least when talking about black and white. So if the interior is black, do black stripes. If white, do white stripes.
Do whatever makes you happy!
If you think you might like black stripes, here's a pic from a website of a guy I've met virtually. Hopefully, this will link right to page 8 of his website.
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/611333/8
His car is a factory color called Astro Blue with Black stripes and interior. I think it looks great! If you click on the pic it will enlarge.
72 Custom Elky Mar 9th, 09, 9:42 AM I voted Blue, but then again I am partial to Blue :D
also would consider the Charcoal stripes to be different ;)
my elky is Blue with Silver Metallic stripes although some of the pics make
them look like white. Check my sig to see it.
Any color will look great as long as your happy is all that matters anyway.
chevele72 Mar 9th, 09, 12:30 PM Blue is my favorite color and when I found Bahama Blue off the '93 chevy trucks it seemed like it was made for the body syle. I know some don't like the stripes but I love it. JMHO

I must agree 100% with all of the above responses/comments.
Also, I notice the predominant preferences are blue. My 70 conv is also blue-----------and I like it. BUUUUUUUUUT, I also love a red Chevelle. There is no way you can go wrong with a red Chevelle. If I were painting a Chevelle, I would be in the same delima about blue or red.
The one thing I do NOT like is stripes. YES, YES, YES, I know, 70 SSs predominately had stripes, but I like the no-stripe look MUCH better. And regardless of engine/options, for a 70-72 car, IT'S GOTTA HAVE A CI HOOD, even if it's a Malibu or a 300!
HEY ANDY!!!
Are you going to make it to CB09?????
Any response other than YES is unacceptable! :D
Sorry, Tom. Not this year. Yet again CB falls the weekend before the last week of school and the wife can't take off. Also, son Mike is becoming a Dad for the first time around the end of April, so long trips are out of the question for him this year, too. Can't go without at least one of my partners. :(
JoAnn will be retiring in a couple years, so hopefully we can become regulars at CB then.
BTW, did I mention I'm going to be a Grandpap for the first time? :hurray:
DOUG G Mar 9th, 09, 6:19 PM I voted Cranberry.
I really liked that Monteray Red on the 08 Vettes... this is as close as I could get and not spend $1000 per gallon.... code G2 Red Candy Metallic Tint (? I think thats the name) It's from the 08 Stangs :clonk: but just a color :D

chevele72 Mar 10th, 09, 7:27 AM If you have to paint it red, paint it GM's Torch Red. Very nice red, it's bright though. I had a pic of my Camaro I had but I couldn't post it.
JC70SS Mar 10th, 09, 2:06 PM Red!

704EVER Mar 10th, 09, 6:55 PM I guess you know what my vote is!!! I've had a couple of Red/Black cars, Black/White car, Mist Green/White, Black Cherry/White car and a Forrest Green/Green combo. This is my first Blue/Black car and the response it gets at the shows is amazing. My next car will be the same color as well, this color combo draws a crowd for sure! This color looks very close to the Vett color your thinking about. Good luck with whatever color you decide to use!!

THANK YOU!!!! That is a picture I needed to see!!! Most of the blue chevelles with blue stripes are a lighter blue hue.
If all goes as planned this weekend, I should have some color on it next week.
70ss396survivor Mar 11th, 09, 6:39 PM jet stream blue.
ChevelleRob Mar 11th, 09, 8:16 PM just anything but red

MEJ1990TM Mar 13th, 09, 5:54 PM Jet Black.
Says the guy with a red Chevelle.
For what it's worth my vote goes for Cranberry Red. I guess I'm biased.

bri2203 Mar 15th, 09, 11:51 PM Update...
I painted the unside and firewall of the Chevelle this weekend so in a couple of days the the body will be getting some color...pending a color desicion.
I had a spray out done of the G8 Syryker/VooDoo Blue and it looks great inside...outside way too much sparkle or metallic.
So I am trying to picl from a color blook with 200 blues!! very tough.
aukai Mar 16th, 09, 6:26 AM The majority of guys here are tired of red. But the masses of people that remember the muscle cars remember the meanest ones were red. I'm sure what ever color you choose heads will turn. You will see people pointing and you can read their lips as you pass them on the road.

bri2203 Feb 14th, 10, 10:53 AM looks like astro blue.
My car is not painted marino blue. The reason for that was I found two 1/2 gallons in the shop so that saved several hundred dollars.
