when i went to get the black 10 B code 69 396ci SS chevelle the owner told me that the block was a 70 - 402ci...I didnt think that much more about it i liked the car and the 402 really didnt matter...we pulled the motor to replace the cam...I was going to build the motor back a little more radical...it turns out that the motor that was in the car is a 396ci @ 375hp....does this bring a greater vallue to this car???see photobucket links
i'll post pics of the block...heads..when i have them

By all means Dave, post some pictures of the casting dates and pad stamp before you get into this motor. It could be quite rare.

If its a real 375HP block. I would say the value would raise some.

A true 396/402 L-78 engine would be worth 2-3X what a lower hp engine is worth if it has all the correct parts. Does it have square port heads and a factory aluminum intake? Those alone would make a lot of difference in the value.

David, the only CKN codes that would be correct for that engine are a 1970
402-330 with automatic in a 1970 monte carlo or malibu. The date of H 7 9 is August 7 of 69 which would put it in a 1970 model.
What makes you think it is an L78?
