Hello, I have a 70' Chevelle and the blinkers just started to do strange things. All the outside flashers will blink whether or not the car is on. The car acts like the hazard light switch is on but it will not stop no matter what possition the switch is in. Also, all the dash lights and overhead light flash with the flashing of the hazard light/turn signal idicators. I have currently removed the Hazzard light relay so the battery won't die but the flashers won't work at all with the relay out. If this helps, when I removed the relay the front flasher lights remain constantly on when the car is running. Any Ideas?

Have you did any electrical work on the car recently???

No, I haven't done any electric work recently. The last electric work I did was about three weeks ago. I put in a new stereo and some new speakers in the back. The stereo has a direct connection to the battery though, so I don't think that could be the problem.

where did you ground the stereo? is an amp involved in this and where did u ground it.sounds like you might have issues in the ground path ,if you haven't changed anything else and this problem did not exist before stereo install

The stereo is grounded to a metal bracket on the steering column. There is no amp involved in the setup. I have also disconnected the stereo's ground and other connections and the problem is still there.

Tracing electrical problems is testing to narrow the possibilites and some trial and error...........
If this helps, when I removed the relay the front flasher lights remain constantly on when the car is running. Any Ideas?
Which flasher did you remove, the hazzard flasher (which is on the fusebox) or the turn signal flasher (which is behind the radio)? Try removing one, then the other, then both, note results.......
With the headlight switch off, the front flasher lights come on when the key turns on? (and off when key is turned off) Is the correct? Does the turn signal lever feel "normal" to you. With the key on move the turn signal switch left and right, does anything change? Will the front lights turn off if you unplug the steering column harness?
Really sounds like the turn signal switch went bad. The turn signal switch has 5 circuits, key minder, horn, hazzards, turn signals and brake lights. Parking lights/dash lights are also electrically connected, but only at outside bulbs. If the contacts are broke circuits can backfeed other circuits. Answer above questions, then post back.

Thanks for your advice undee70ss. I pulled the steering wheel off and pulled out the whole turn signal switch. Some of the wires were stripped and were touching each other. Just re-wired the switch and it works perfectly :)
