quijote Mar 6th, 09, 12:13 AM Hi ...

Arturo.-
floyd66 Mar 6th, 09, 3:59 AM this is your work?
lookin good. what year and car is it?
fishhead Mar 6th, 09, 7:45 AM Looks like the defroster I have in my car...so I am going to say 69
quijote Mar 6th, 09, 3:08 PM Floyd66,
Is me unless the things i don't know how to do. By example, i don't know how to paint, so i clean up as needed and then send the parts for paint.
Same thing with other process like zinc, chrome, etc...
Bigger things like, by example, a frame off, or suspension replacement are being done by a prestigious shop and people that knows far away more than me.
fishhead,
Correct ! is a 69 Chevelle
just take on mind the exact same model of defogger can be found in other models too.
fishhead Mar 7th, 09, 12:00 AM yes they did put the defoggers on other gm cars. I dont know if they put this type of defogger on any other year Chevelle though...
I accidentally threw my defogger bezel away and had to buy another one. Cost me almost $50. They are a little rare...
quijote Mar 7th, 09, 4:58 PM Today i was cleaning the wires and the electric contacts but i took some pictures on some numbers i found.
What is interesting is it says "8 68"... that means the defogger is from the year 68 ¿?... or i'm looking in the wrong place ? there is a sequence of numbers that can't be read with easy... only the 8 68 can be directly identfied...

shane918 Mar 7th, 09, 9:18 PM Nice job!. I'm in the process of putting my 72 back together. This was one area where I failed to take pictures of before I ripped everything apart. I wasn't looking forward to putting it back together. Should be a breeze now
Al
quijote Mar 7th, 09, 11:12 PM Thx !

Arturo.-
fishhead Mar 7th, 09, 11:30 PM What month is your car?
Mine is an early 69 as many of my datecodes have late 68
quijote Mar 7th, 09, 11:32 PM i have ... no idea :pout:
shane918 Mar 8th, 09, 12:56 AM Absolutely, I'll place a link to your "Rear Defogger" in my tech page.
Al
quijote Mar 9th, 09, 12:50 AM Thx !
* Today i get over the capacitor ...and find myself in a big dilema...
The new pictures (see http://www.chevelle.cl/eng.index.htm ) shows some aesthetic update, and it will need some little soldering in some place (the pictures shows some wires that are broken), the functionallity must be checked by an electrician, and after that there will some painting ...
...but...
YearOne has the same capacitor, new GM
http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/fbshopmain2.asp?input=capacitor&SM=1&SC=0
...i'm thinking in buy the new one...
as far as i can, i only can restore the aesthetic of the piece (better than new)... but a capacitor... is a capacitor... a closed circuit... i can't believe after 40 years that part can work same as a new one...
... would you restore it ? or replace it ?
wambams69ss396 Mar 9th, 09, 1:44 AM hey arturo do you really live in chile?not many 69 chevelles in south america i would think.do you find it hard to get part for your car?can you post a picture of your south american 69 chevelle for us.good luck with your car
quijote Mar 9th, 09, 8:54 AM ...wambams69ss396...
I live in Chile, in the city of Santiago. Car was found in the city of Concepción.
They are very uncommon here but they exist and can be found not only in Chile. They exist in Argentina too, by example.
About the picture, my blog has an entrie called Chevelle with the picture of the front : http://fcoarturobn.blogspot.com/
there is also the same image in the www.camaro.cl (http://www.camaro.cl) forum :

http://www.chevelle.cl/eng.rear_defroster.html
Arturo.-
shane918 Mar 22nd, 09, 5:06 PM Arturo, paint looks great. What did you use?
Al
704EVER Mar 22nd, 09, 6:14 PM It looks great, I'll bet you have a few hours in that piece and it shows!!
quijote Mar 22nd, 09, 8:13 PM Al,
i still don't know how to paint, so it was painted by "the shop".
1st painting was in epoxy : the result was nice but not "black mirror"
...paint removed...
2nd paint job started, with "polyurethane" (i don't know more specifications by now)
the quality is very good : it is a black mirror :-)
Mike... you are right : many many hours :)
z15cam Mar 22nd, 09, 10:41 PM Siish! A I suspected. I've been looking for a rear defogger for my 70Z. Other then an Eldorado I suspected the 69 Chevelle rear defogger was the same Unit and that it is.
What are the chances of finding one of these units, specifically the Rear Deck Bezel and plastic ducts ?
I'm sure I can modify another blower motor for my purpose.
fishhead Mar 22nd, 09, 11:27 PM theres one on ebay right now...
Original NOS.
I have a non working blower and the duct. The vent I dont have but there is one of those on too BIN $39.00
z15cam Mar 23rd, 09, 12:38 AM All I come up with on eBay are these stupid units that claim to be the correct unit but are not.

Heaven forbid I bet this Cuda unit would fit better - LOL

Theres been one on ebay for quite some time...lehmans auto salvage...
I sent him an offer and told him that I had a 69 Chevelle. He wouldnt take my offer because he said it wouldnt fit a Chevelle and I clearly told him they would. HIS part is for an Impala and Chevelles dont have this kind of defogger. He is sadly mistaken....I have seen PLENTY of Chevelles with this defogger setup and besides what should he care if I put it on something else?
In his ad he makes it a point to not want offers of $20. So I sent him another email some time later with an offer of $20.
quijote Mar 23rd, 09, 10:19 AM ... i ask him for a shipping quote... cuz i need the screws & clips :D
anyway ... he doesn't ship to Chile...
i'll have to clean / chroming / whatever ..the screws :) ... but to get the clips here will be a bit more difficult
Arturo.-
fishhead Mar 23rd, 09, 10:31 AM Arturo...
Can you send me a pic of the clips and screws you need?
I frequent a few junk yards OR I migh have some in my parts bin...
fishhead Mar 23rd, 09, 10:32 AM Z15
I think Chevelles had 2 types of defrosters...the little ones and the long ones...
z15cam Mar 23rd, 09, 1:26 PM I believe the 69 Chevelle and 70 Camaro shared the same Rear defogger Unit. They also shared the same size upper and lower Ball joints - ;o)
I'm think them Square Units are Impala from 67 and up and possibly Camaro and Chevelle after 71.
Siish! look at this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270352948176&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&viewitem=
http://i14.ebayimg.com/06/i/001/2f/65/1b04_2.JPG
$700 for a 70Z unit they are NUTS but it appears the same as a 69 Chevelle unit.
After a closer examination of the Eldorado unit it is not the same but could be modified to fit.
quijote Mar 23rd, 09, 9:11 PM Hi Shane,
i think... this will not be easy :-)
anyway... here is the link with a picture with the little pieces...
http://www.chevelle.cl/members/fcoarturobn/site/images//screws_and_clips.JPG
(and i still don't even know where they have to be placed :-) )
Arturo.-
