I am in the process of hooking up electric brakes in my truck for pulling my car trailer and do not know what brand of controller to buy. I do not have anti-lock brakes in the truck, so that is not an issue. I am looking for a reasonably priced electronic controller and only need to brake on 1 axle. Any input appreciated.

If the trailer is equipped with brakes on both axles, both will work when hooked up. Best thing to do is go to the local trailer place or RV place. They will have everything you need.

Anti-lock does not matter...There are some cheap ones out there..but those brake controllers have to all pass a DOT standard...but the more adjustment the controller has the happier you will be so you can adjust for a load weight...

I have had some cheap controllers and they all sucked, I now have a good digital read out one that works great.

I'm using the Tekonsha P3, model the came after the Prodigy (mentioned above), both are awesome, I just like the display on the P3. As a relative newbie to towing, it was easy to hook up, and had great explanations on how to use, highly recommend it! No rods or other tie in's to the vehicle, just wire it in and go!

I have the tekonsha as well, you can find them really cheap on ebay, much much cheaper than going to a local store... you can also contact a local truck dismantler and find them, then go online and get the directions on use and connections.

Amazing, also had the Prodigy and replaced with the Tenkonsha. And I absoluting agree, install is cake and a quality piece. Spend at least $100 on one. Stay away from anything cheaper. It's night and day difference between a $70 unit and a $120 unit.

I have a Prodigy as well, easy hookup. Stay away from time-based controllers, get a progressive/inertia controller so it brakes the trailer the same as the tow vehicle.

X3.... Great unit, just make sure whatever you get has a manual applicater so you can straighten out the trailer if the wind blows

No matter what brand you buy, get one that has the digital read out.
