I've got a newly done 454 in place of my 396. I want to keep the car looking original but have it perform better than original.

Don't they make kit you can put in a points distributor so that the car would look original? If they do, would you still need a coil?

Yes, several including Pertronix and Mallory. Still require a separate coil.
