I am trying to find someone who restores muncie 4 speed shifters. The muncie doctor in Tenn. says he does them. Anyone had any experience with him or anyone else. Thank you

I was going to use this guy to rebuild a shifter for a 4 4 2. He was at the Springfield Ohio show and had some great examples of his work on hand. Looked like good work and his prices were very reasonable. He did some tricky factory correct meticulous type jobs. Info is below.

Are you talking about the MUNCIE shifter or a Hurst shifter for a muncie Transmission..? If it the MUNCIE stock shifter replace with a hurst and keep your stock shifter. What year Chevelle do you own ? That's what i did and dont regret it. Most of the time stock MUNCIE shifter are missing the detent springs and cups. The vibrate out over years. The repro stock shifter are junk and dont come with the cup and springs...I REPETE DONT COME WITH THE SPRINGS AND CUPS ! ! ! THEY TELL YOU THEY DONT ! ! I have a 69 and did the Hurst shifter thing and fit like a glove. No cutting the floor at all.

It's a 70 SS 396. I've had this car since 1973. I took the Muncie shifter out in 74, but I kept it. Now I'm having the car restored. I know the shifter sucks but that is the " right" thing to do. I'm not going to drive it enough anymore to cause a problem. I hope. If it does I still the Hurst I put in it in 74. Thanks for all the input, I appreciate it. Greg

rebuild it yourself. It's about as simple as it gets. clean it, grease it, use it. Good diagram in the factory chassis manual.

Hurst is better, stock is fair, repros are not worth their weight in scrap.
