I have been looking into getting a donor posi for my Malibu and am wondering if anybody knows what the codes are. The ones stamped into the axle housing, front passenger side.
Is there a site that has these codes?
I'm also curious if a ratchet style locker would be a feasible way to go in my 2.73 rear. I really don't want to give up the mpg, but I need to do something. Would the lack of torque transfer make this a less than intelligent idea?

If you don't have the Chevelle SS Restoration Guide - I recommend you get one. The axle codes are in there along with much more info. to help you to understand part numbers and other car features. Much of the info. in the book can be used for the regular production Malibu.
