I'm looking for a listing by color that tells where/what a wire does.

I have the body by fisher 1966 service manual (4226635) and the chassis service manual (st72)

The body by fisher service manual chapter 11 covers seats, windows, covair tops etc...

The chassis manual has alt hook up and testing, guages etc...

I need to know which where goes were by color.

I've got a spare dash setup with wires, I've started tracing wires and found the ign has

RED,OR, PURP, PURP/WHT + PURP, and GRN

I understand that the ign has three switches, acc, on, start
the switch must have an input

I have a chiltons book, but can't find it right now, they haven't given much wiring info in the past.

I also saw the post of a pic that showed a 69, but the colors were hard to see and I think it's different.

so far I know the ign switch is as follows:

Orange : Ignition switched
Red : Battery
Purp/wht : Starter sol
Purp/wht + Purp : Acc
Green : Ground

so red must go to the alt or battery for input, I'm also guessing this needs a fusable link, maybe the 40 amp I've heard of?

anyway, I've started tracing wires and I'll post the results. I'm a bit dissapointed in the books having so much information about power windows and seats, and nothing on basic wiring.

thanks, KarlJay

Not sure exactly where to point you, but keep in mind that the connectors coming out of the dash will only plug into one place (their respective accessory).

66 chassis service manual has wiring diagrams. They aren't that easy to read, and it can be a pain to figure out the 1-3 character color codes. They also may not have as much detail as desired.

The instrument cluster connector is on page 12-55 but you have to stare at the diagrams for a few beers and picture things before they make sense :(

Look at the vertical center of the page on the right at the 12 pin connector and the vertical bar to its right.
