I would like to thank all of you out there for the past help with the decoding my 65 Chevelle. I found the casting numbers and they are in the right time frame. #3959512 I cleaned the front area and found the other number but no date code. After reading several postings I found that my block is more than likely a replacement block. The only number I could find is CE4N35290. There is no date code, is it possible to get any information from the CE code or is there anyplace I could go to research when the motor was put in ? Thanks Greg B

Sure. Mortec.com says:
3959512....327...62-67...2...Was also used for some "CE" replacement blocks
C = Chevrolet
E = Engine
4 = 1964
N = ?
35290 = sequence number of Flint V-8 engine assembly. Looks like the 15,290th engine built at Flint for warranty.

The N supposedly denotes the completeness of the component.
i.e. short block, bare block, fitted with pistons only, etc.
Contrary to popular belief they just did not put in a complete new engines, they only replaced was was damaged. A CE on there shows that at the very least, the block was replaced but no way of knowing what that all included, pistons, crank, cam, or just a bare block, 1 new piston and reuse all other parts?? No way to know withoout the original work order.
