Picked up a 66 Convert shell- really rough- no frame or driveline. It was a mostly complete shell. Cowl tag says
66-13867 KAN 324 BODY
TR 790-B M-2 Paint
W2 MGS
Pillar Vin # is 13667Z125012
Does the difference in the first 5 #s 13867-13667 on the two plates make sense?
All rivets appear original. Have no title, Parts car-just curious.
Thanks, Karl

Looks like that car has been re-tagged sometime during its life..138 a SS car from Kansas city and 136 a Malibu from Fremont Ca.

Thank God it's only a parts car :( One of the two tags has been replaced, which one? Hard to say...but likely the Trim Tag.

Thanks again for your feedback. Just for the record, I did NOT buy this car for the tags. I feel as many do, that our hobby is not well served by those that mis-represent vehicles.
The problem is not with Look- alike cars, but the "deception for value" of some.
Note- person who sold me car was straight up, even had someone call him just wanting the tag.
If I ever figure out how to e-mail photos I will send the tag & vin photos to Dale.

IIRC, one is for a 66 and the other for a 67.

An "automotive recycling" guy (f/k/a junk yard guy) once told me that the assembly line workers will often write the VIN number on the car with grease pencil some place that does not show once the car is fully assembled-like the inside of a quarter. I guess he knew what he was talking about, but don't know if that was done back in '66. Keep an eye out for grease pencil markings if you eventually cut the car up - which you may need to do to get rid of the car when you are through with it anyway.

This body shell sat on Kansas dirt since 1998.
No frame or driveline.
The most difficult choice I had to make last Saturday was where I was going to cut it with a Sawsall.
CHOP UP A CONVERTIBLE?? Tough call, I am from Minnesota we have trouble spelling the word!
Cowl is Still intact, cut just in front of bucket seat mounts. Balance of body is cut in half, r/side of tranny hump.
Floors and crossmembers are very porous.
Your marking comment is well taken, however, very unlikely anything remains. There are no marks on firewall, front clip was from a different car, doors were original to car, no marks on any inner areas. Only area left to look is the part that sat on the ground for over five years. The saga continues.
At least now, in the distant future, I can brag about my SS/Malibu "converts" (plural) that I once had. :D
Thanks for your comments.

Karl What e-mail program are you using? There should be an option for attachments.
Nobody answered the real obvious by LeoP, you say it's a 66 yet both the trim tag and VIN are 67 - or was that a typo?
