I assume it is driver side under hood towards windshield but can anyone narrow it down more than that. Im looking at a 65 malibu that isnt for sale but is at a body shop. Im thinking the owner is waiting for funds and it never hurts to ask around.

Its a 283 with a 2 speed glide. 2 barrel carb... its either a 65 or 64, im not good at tell the difference. I looked for a vin number but it wasnt there. It was dark and I didnt want to pop the hood again after checking out the 283.

I will have a numbers sequence by tomorrow if I can find the cowl tag.

Anyways what would be a fair price on lets say a 65 malibu, with decent to good body, little rust in the usaul spots with no front bumber and a somewhat crummy interior. I mean im looking at dumping 5 to 6 grand into the car with out engine or drivetrain work to make it nice..

Hi Monte-73,

The cowl tag on a 65 Chevelle is found under the hood on the firewall next to the wiper motor.

If its a '64 then the front grille appears to be floating between the hood and the lower valance panel as there is a gap all the way around it.
Also the front fenders and back quarter panels are flat or blunt on a '64 while the '65 front fenders come to arrow head point.
