I'm considering a 70 z28 that I want to confirm that it is. There is no motor or trans. I have a vin # only. Where can I go to get this info?
Vin # 124870L544018 TR724

Try www.nastyZ28.com. (http://www.nastyZ28.com.) Lots of info there.

1 = DIVISION -Chevrolet
24 = MODEL SERIES -Camaro, 8 cylinder
87 = BODY STYLE -2-door sport coupe
L = ASSEMBLY PLANT - Los Angeles
544018 = Sequence number

I assume TR724 is off of the trim tag.
724=Dark Green Knit Vinyl Seats.

Not much else to tell. You may be in luck in that the L.A. (Van Nuys) plant sometimes put build sheets on top of the gas tanks of Chevelles. They may have done the same for Camaros. If the original tank is still on the car, you may find the build sheet which would gave all of the cars info. Good luck.

the LA built 1970 Z-28's did NOT have the Z28 code on the body tag like the Norwood (VIN number N instead of L) built cars did.

Several simple ways to determine if a real Z (depending on level of parts remaining):
1. 8k tach, 7k redline
2. rear sway bar or sway bar mounts on upper frame area
3. 12 bolt rear axle
4. alum spacers below front lower control arm bumpers
5. rear bumper guards
6. "truck" gas pedal that hinges from floor
6a. holes in floor / studs still bolted to floor where gas pedal attached
7. rear spoiler
8. deep grove pulley if ps pump still there
9. dual exhaust hangers

Signs it is NOT a real Z:

factory A/C
suspended gas pedal
no factory guages
no rear sway bar mounts on rear frame section
no holes in rear valance for rear bumper guards

oh, almost all had the build sheet tucked under the passenger front seat

another clue: "wide" front radiator opening in core support
