The add says:

"Second owner 70.000 mile car. Restored in Mint condition back to orginial. Garage kept. Car is fully detailed under carriage as well. Never been in the rain since restored."

What do you guys think this Malibu is worth? See link for pics.

Hey Steve how you doing? I like it a jump in and go car from the looks of it.

12.500-15,000 to me would be a descent deal in my mind . Hard to judge these days with the economy and all.

I'm with Mike on the ballpark he tossed out. That's a pretty clean un-molested Malibu!

Back when 70's were at there peak a year or so ago I seen a gold one just as nice as the one your looking at except it had bucket seats console and lower miles. To the best of my knowledge I'm remembering on ebay it brought 21k. If your wanting a 70 it could be worth a little more to you since it is in nice condition. I say 15 to 17k tops today. If you take your average 70 and what it takes to restore one you could not get to that shape for 16k and considering that it probably has original sheet metal is a huge plus. That car appears to be in very nice condition and would need very little to drive to shows. I like it and I also like the gold. Not a big fan of the beige interior though but still a nice car.

Steve, it looks good in the pics. Is it close enough for you to go look at it in person? That is the best way to evaluate it's value. If the body, floors, trunk and under the vinyl top are all as nice as the ad states, it would be a nice driver.

What is the asking price?

Real pretty car!! In a year, I just hope not to see some 18 year old kid driving it with ss stripes, a huge stereo, glass packs and Gabriel HiJackers

Thanks for the replies guys! I spoke to the current owner who said he had the the following items done to the car:

Paint (top, trunk and bottom)
New top
New interior (except dash)
Rebuilt the 2 barrel carb
New brakes
New tires and wheels

Other than that the car retains its original numbers matching 70,000 drivetrain
(350/350/10bolt) and all of the chrome and stainless are original and perfect. All the glass is orginal except the windshield. Original spare and jack are present as well and has the original steel wheels and hubcaps. AC works but doesn't blow cold, and the 10 bolt pinion seal is leaking.

He's asking $16,000 for the car, I'm thinking of offering him $13,000. What do you guys think?

TIA

I think $13,000 sounds good.

Sounds like a fair offer.

2 years ago during the peak time in value, I could have bought a 70 malibu from the original family for 10k. It was in excellent condition with one repaint. It was in New Jersey.

Very similar to the one you are asking about.

Hey Guys-

I received some pics of the underside of the car today. Thought I'd share and see what you guys think. Are we still thinking 13K is a good price to start? Or should I try to steal it for 10K? See the link...

I would figure you may need to redo the front end it might be original and after 39 years it would be time no matter how many miles on it. If it doesn't have disc brakes then you have to add that as well, so figure the combo dust cap to dust cap will set you back $1600 plus the brake conversion around $600. So that is $2200 immediate outlay, plus figure a/c is going to cost you $500-$1000 to repair, trust me it always does.
so $3300 in repairs off the bat, figure out what makes you comfortable total for the car, back out the $3300 and make your offer.

 Why does he have to add the disc brakes? Drums are fine for a cruiser.

I don't think 13 is a good deal.
As stated before, 10k is all I would pay for a very nice and original, one family owned, 350 malibu loaded, back when the market was going strong.

I always appreciate and admire a nice original Chevelle. I always think I would feel guilty for changing anything though. When I build one up the way I want it I figure it's an improvement over what I started with. But when it's all redone and original, I just feel like I would be bringing the value down by changing anything. (That might just be my own weird way of looking at it.) There again, how much value is there to a relatively stock Malibu? You have to decide not what its worth, but what its worth to you, and do you have any problem changing out things to make it different if thats what you want it to be.

Good luck and have fun with it!

Thanks guys, I do appreciate all of the great responses. 10K is really all that I want to pay for it, but we'll see how clean it really is in person and go from there.

I think even at 16K that is an excellent price from the pictures the car looks every bit worth it. You would be surprised what junk you can find for that price event that people pay for all of the time.

It his really hard to get used to four wheel drums after driving newer cars. A guy at cruise has a '69 Dodge Polara and thought that there was something wrong with the brakes (everything was new or rebuilt). I took it for a drive and said "welcome to 1969".
