i'm sure you guys have answered this a million times, but here goes. i had my 72 lemans deliver sunday, and the first thing i noticed is the tires are crap. i don't know what brand they are, but they are cheap, hard, and go up in smoke at the touch of the pedal, and being that it's a little wet out today, it has definately been interesting trying to hook up.

the tires on there now are p215/75R14. i don't have enough in my budget to get new wheels at this point, but i'm definately stopping after work to get some tires. i want this to be safe for the wife.

i'd really like to fill the rear wells, and have a little stance to boot. what size tires should i look at? the rims are stock ralley II's 14X i think 6.

any help would be greatly appreciated...

really aint much of selection for that size rim. Try and snag some some tires with bigger rims on the c-list. youll spend the same if not less and get what you are looking for

well i'm confused. i went into a place i've been buying tires from for about 30 years. the owner comes out all excited, he likes the car, and i've taken countless projects to him over the years. i had 225/70-14 on there, they were skinny, hard, steel belted junk. he takes me to the dark corners of the wharehouse, and drags out a nice set of fat tires, he gives me a good deal, and it's on.

so after about 30 minutes, i go out to see the finished product, the wheel wells are nicely filled, and the tires look about twice as fat as the originals we tossed. they are cooper cobra radial g/t, white letter tires. they look good and i'm happy. on the way to work today, they stuck real well and rode very nicely, i even made a nice pile of mash potatoes for the v.p.

heres the part that confuses me, i get out of the car, and it dawns on me to look at the tire size P225/70OR14.....isn't this basically the same size, how could they be so much bigger, and different and still be same numbers?
