View Full Version : Crazy Beaumont Questions

Ok, I have a 1968 Beaumont Custom. I have some weird questions for anyone who knows the answer, or anyone who thinks he might, or anyone who just wants to chuck in his two cents.

I'm trying to change the fuel line. According to all my research, the outlet of the mech pump (orig) is 3/8 NPT. So I bought an adapter to connect this to a -6an hose end. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit. The 3/8" original is juuuuust a bit smaller than 3/8" (I'm guessing it's worn, since it's 40 years old and has been in and out a few times). The new one is juuuuuust a bit bigger than 3/8". ???? AND, the threads are different. The new one has 18 threads-per-inch. The original has what looks like 16. Any clues?

Second question: I know that the interior of the car is from the GTO, but it almost seems like there are parts from various years of GTO. The rear arm-rests in particular continue to elude me. I bought the 68 GTO ones for my resto, but the screw-holes don't line up exactly. Ideas? Could someone with a 68 posts some pictures of the rear arm-rests? I could use that to match up the shape and trim to what's available on the market and get the right ones (I hope).

Thanks for any help. And thanks to the TC boys for putting a Beaumont forum in here.

You're right about the interior bits being sourced from different makes and models. When I was refurbishing the interior of my 67', the arm rests and whatnot were traced back to the Chevelle parts bin. That includes the rear door panels, front panels, door handles, etc. According the retrosoundUSA (and member 67 aksd), the dash is from a GTO, along with some of the guages. I know my new fuel guage came from a 67' GTO. The Chevelle unit wasn't even close...

I hope that helps a bit. These cars can be a bit of a mystery when it comes to sourcing new parts.

A question for your fuel line question. This being a Canadian built for Canadian use car, Could the fuel line be metric?? Not sure when Canada went metric...

Thanks for the info hypa. I noticed that the door panels were Chevelle as well on the 68. So is the package tray, headliner, and most of the other large trim parts. It's the arm-rests that were giving me grief. Knowing they're from the Chevelle narrows my search a lot.

For the fuel line, no, Canada didn't go metric until 1980. I actually figured that either someone re-tooled the threads on both parts (the pump and the line fittings) or the company made them "special", and not standard 18 threads per inch.

Canada went metric in 1978

Thanks for the correction. I just remember arguing with my grade 4 teacher about it, and that was 1980. Either way, a 1968 fuel pump should be standard imperial. SHOULD be.
