I added ceramic coated headers to my '66 Malibu. The right one is 1/4" from the brake line. Is this or has this been a problem for any of you? Thanks.

Not on mine.

Bluess454, how close are your headers to your brake line?

My 66 Malibu has the right front brake line about 1/4 in from the header also. Its been that way since I got it, seems to work, from the amount I have driven it. I do not know what brand of headers are on it. The line goes from inside the frame over the top of the frame to the bracket for the flex hose.

Mine was born a 6 cylinder car and now has a 350 v8. In catalogs I have seen some mention of differences in front brake lines for SS cars. This may help.

I am near upgrading to front discs and plan to move that line then.

Any other info would be appreciated.

One of my brake lines is close to my Doug's headers, a bit more than 1/4 inch. I used a heat shield sleeve on the brake line in that area. Haven't had a problem.

Similar situation with my 66 small block malibu. Bought the line to fit a BB which routes it along the pass frame rail maybe 8 in. and then crosses over the frame rail and back towards the front of the car. This routing supposably clears the stock manifolds better but it ran it smack dab into a header tube. Bent it slightly and redrilled a mounting hole to clear maybe 3/8 in. and was hoping that would be enough.

The lines and valve are close to a header tube on my `72 and I did have a problem. Shortly after I bought it, I was sitting in drive at a long light the brakes suddenly lost about 90% of their holding power. Turns out the brake fluid was very old and probably had a lot of moisture in it. Replaced all the fluid with Valvoline syntec and put an insulating mat between the header tube and brake lines. No problems since. The Valvoline meets dot 3 & 4 specs, which means it has the higher boiling point of dot 4 but doesn't absorb moisture a quickly as dot 4 so it doesn't require more frequent replacement like dot 4 does.

There is about a 1/4" of clearance between the headers and the distribution block on the frame.

mikemalibu, was the heat sleeve you used the spark plug wire type?
jerry70, what was the insulating mat that you used?
Thanks to all who replied.

210, the shield I used was ThermoTec 12"x6", $22 from Summit. It comes with clamps to wrap around the pipe but I wired it flat between the combination valve and the header tube. Summit #THE-11600.
