Does anyone know how to connect the gear indicator back up on a column shifter. 1970 malibu. Had this problem on my last chevelle too but never worried about it, this time around i want to fix it. Thanks

There's a string with a small clip on it coming down out of the dash. I move the steering column to the lowest gear to slide it of the column and tighten the screw.

This is assuming you (or previous owner) did not break the "wire" when the column was dropped (or replaced).

You can harvet the gear indicator from another cluster and put it into place on your current cluster.

Ask me how I know?

I have repaired a couple of the little strings when the column dropped down and broke them by splicing on a piece of floral wire.

yup, the little string IS broken, i can see where it's supposed to go....argh
