I need some advice, I just recently finished a 70SS and would like to install a new rear end gear set with posi. The car has a 12 bolt open now, upon research I found the rear end came from possibly a 69 with a automatic I think 273's are in there. 1. What gear set would you suggest, the car has a M20 (FS? this came from the build sheet) original tranny. The motor is a 396 that puts about 435 HP. I put 275/60/15's on the back. I drive this car mostly in town with some small highway time. 2. What MFG would you suggest for the posi and gears to come from. 3. Where should I get the overhaul kit from and what should it include. 4. lastly if I need to replace the axles who and where should I get them. I have seen all the parts listed in OPG, what about getting all from them? Thanks for your reply

all the parts you need, can come from me or BGH. far cheaper than from OPG. better parts too. we can also give you the tech assistance you will need.

i would suggest either 3.42 or 3.55 gears and eaton posi with a bearing kit that uses timken bearings. i use yukon gears and axles most of the time. tom

Tom is building my 3:73 12 bolt as we speak. He is easy to talk to and knows a lot about rear ends, he even offered advice on how to properly set-up my rear with aftermarket components (boxed lowers, adjustable uppers, ect.). I'm sure BGH is a good guy too, but I went with Tom and he's been great. Maybe you could just buy one of Toms completed units and store yours in the garage if it's numbers matching?
