: increase mail box
Mr69 Feb 27th, 09, 9:09 PM How do I increase the number of mails I can have in my mailbox? I am at the max of 50 and I really don't want to delete any of them at this time.
Also, people are trying to email me and I am unable to get these emails since my box is full. How can I ever retrieve these emails that have been sent to me. I have not been able to read them and I would like to.
Mike Feb 27th, 09, 9:23 PM Apparently Charter.net is your provider so your e-mail goes through them ,not this site.
If your talking about the amount of 'private messages' you can get ,then by becoming a Team Member (paid user),you get 250 messages.
Could always empty the box ;)
Mr69 Feb 27th, 09, 9:47 PM No, I am talking about the mail I get thru Team Chevelle.
My Team Chevelle mailbox.
I keep getting these emails in my Charter mailbox.
"XXXXXXXX" has just tried to send you a private message. However, your private
messages box on Chevelle Tech has reached the specified quota. In order to
receive further private messages, you must delete some messages. Please visit
this page to do so:
Mike Feb 27th, 09, 9:53 PM Your answering your own question.
Apparently you have your 'User CP'(control panel) set to e-mail you when you get a PM but as you state:
your private messages box on Chevelle Tech has reached the specified quota. In order to receive further private messages, you must delete some messages.
Just below your login user name it should show the amount of 'unread' & 'total' PM's.
Click on 'private messages' and delete something.

I have done this several times and I just don't want to delete the PMs I have in there right now.
I'll just pay the member fee and then have the 250, but in the meantime, how do I ever recover the PMs that were sent to me that I could not view. Are they gone forever?
In the past I have deleted PMs so that I could view the newly sent PMs, but they never come thru. so all I have are charter email notices from TC that tell me that so and so sent me a PM, but I have yet to ever see them. :(
So you're telling me that there is no way to increase the size of my PM box unless I send in the $20? Do I really need to pay the $20 member fee just to increase the size of my mailbox??
Mr69 Feb 28th, 09, 12:01 AM ok I deleted 3. Now how do I get the PMs that I missed?
Mike Feb 28th, 09, 12:25 PM You probably don't.
You get 50 ,doesn't matter if you had 57,you get 50.
Deleting makes room for new ones ,doubt the server holds them or you'd get them all.
I'd guess there gone.
PM AL if you can still send -not sure how you;'d receive unless he goes to your e-mail.
Dean Feb 28th, 09, 12:31 PM I think I would just make a new folder on my hard drive, name it "MYPM" (or whatever) and copy and paste anything I wanted to save into it, then delete them from my PM box.
Shevelle Feb 28th, 09, 1:06 PM Could it be that you are limited unless you are a paying member? Seems I've seen more than 50 in mine.
Racing Feb 28th, 09, 3:47 PM ok I deleted 3. Now how do I get the PMs that I missed?
"XXXXXXXX" has just tried to send you a private message. --------
You probably going to have to PM XXXXXXX and request that they resend their PM.
Does the sender receive a message stating that the recipient's mail box it full?
The sender should get a notice that your pm box is full and hopefully resends later or uses the "contact" form
On the bottom right of the pm page is an option to "download all messages" which you can choose to do and save them as a text file or several other methods. Then you can delete messages to make more room and still have all the original messages saved on your computer. Also, check to see if you are saving copies of all sent mail. Might not need to do that to all of them which really saves space.
We would like to have this set to a high number but with so many registered users it would gobble up a lot of space, (which may not even be so bad) but some guys leave and let the pm box fill to whatever number is available and never check them again. Lots of space gone and more to backup all the time - that's the reason forums put limits in like that.
Hope this helps a bit.
Al
Mr69 Feb 28th, 09, 8:14 PM Had 2 pms come in right before I deleted the 3 yesterday. I suppose there's no way to retreive those?????????

Doubt it.
Server gives you 50 -anything over goes away ,not stored.
Download the PM box contents and keep it low and you'll stand a chance of getting your messages.
I retrieve mine ,download the keepers and keep the # at 0 -leaves room open for 250 pissed off users
DaleM Feb 28th, 09, 10:57 PM You can download and save the messages (both Inbox and Sent Items) in text format.
For example, the Inbox in your PM area, select all the messages by checking the box at the far right of the "Private Messages In Folder: Inbox" header line.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and in the lower right you'll see another box titled "Save Messages" and a drop down box. Select "Download as TEXT" and click GO. IE prompts you for a location to save them while Firefox lets you send them to Notepad or save them.
Once you've saved the contents of the Notepad text file you can then go back to the "Save Messages" box and choose Delete.
You can do the same with your Sent Items.
Being a member I have a 300 total message limit and, being the pack rat/historian I am, I clean mine out quite often. I will generally leave the last month or so in both the Inbox and Sent Items but I archive the rest when I start getting around 250 total. I simply created a folder on my local machine named "Team Chevelle Messages" and have almost all I've sent and received since Feb. 2007.
Mr69 Mar 4th, 09, 10:39 PM All good advice, except there is one major problem. I don't have internet service at home and am using the computer at the library, the local coffee shop or at a friends house. I have no place to save anything. I'm just trying to sell a few parts, maybe satisfy a few wanted parts requests and keep in contact with people that I have gotten advice from or sold parts to in the past or people who are working on similar projects and we share ideas. I'd gladly send in the $20 for added space, but frankly I don't have an extra $20 right now either. Things are real tight.
You could get yourself a Flash Drive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_flash_drive)
I've been getting them free from Micro Center

Mr69 Mar 13th, 09, 3:22 PM ok I went in and deleted all of my sent messages and now have tons of room. Why didn't I think of that before?????:clonk:
