: More dash problems

Interior wire harness, Dash, Steering colum from a 70 Malibu
I previously posted an add about no power to fuse block, the guru's here traced problem to big read wire. Turned out that it was in the wrong position on the interior side (at the fuse block). I had to remove wire from fuse block and move it over to mate it to the big red wire on the engine wire harness. Thx for the help, now
My key will not start the car, sigh.... what to do. I was able to start the car with the key on engine off position ( one step before cranking ) by tapping into the purple wire with a jumper wire ( the section of purple wire off of the starter on the engine harness side not under dash). The car runs and shuts off with the key. Here is what I can tell you
I have power all the time from the red wire coming out of the ignition switch
I have power from green wire with key on engine off and ground with key in crank position
Orange has power with key on engine off, no power in crank position
Brown has power all the time
Brown white has power all the time
Pink has power all the time
Purple white is ground with key on engine off, power with key in crank position.
Any help would be great, I am thinking something is crossed at fuse block again but it is overwhelming looking at every wire that goes in and out, I need some direction.

Power follows this route to crank the car.........
IGN switch-12g purple w/white stripe to netural safety switch-12g purple to starter "S" terminal.
Rotate the column (right near the dash) counter clockwise. If still no crank,
check to see if the purples are plugged into the NSS.
guitarguru5155 Mar 1st, 09, 6:06 AM Thank you to all who replied, Again I found that a 70 chevelle and a 72 chevelle have wiring differences. I ended up in the fuse block again. The purpler wire out of nuetral saftey switch ( only wire coming out of the ignition switch that goes from ground to hot) had a different location in the interior wire harness(70 malibu harness) than my engine harness (72 malibu). removed fuse block , found location of 10g purple wire and moved it to match.
After I got it fired I finally got to test the car (been working a month straight after work to get this far) During my test drive I got a very noisey valve on the right bank. When I got home check oil to see if I was low....Water from top to bottom. My super clean oil turned milk shake after first test drive. Damn muscle cars are gonna be the end of me...

The job is not finished yet. There are more wires to move before that 70 harness is ready to use in your 72. See the attached with photo.
If you look closely at the wire side of the dash harness bulkhead connector (separate the fuse block from the bulkhead connector) You should see letters marking the rows and columns. The rows are A,B,C and D. The columns are S,T,U and V for the forward lamp harness and W,X,Y and Z for the engine harness. The following refers to these coordinates.
Forward lamp harness
AS – No wire Note: The 70 bk/pnk wire is power to TCS, you can just leave it in place.
BS – Tan 2 wires (for brake warning light) From DU
CS – Light Blue wire (for left hand direction signal) NO CHANGE
DS – Yellow wire (for windshield wiper power) From CY
AT – Black wire (ground from steering wheel horn button for horn relay) NO CHANGE
BT – Brown/white wire- (resistor wire, ignition switch to voltage regulator) From CU.Note: Two wires on light harness. The second, Brown is from the GEN light.
CT – Dark Blue wire (for right hand direction signal) NO CHANGE
DT – Light Blue wire (for windshield wiper) From DY
AU – Light Green 2 wires (for headlights high beam) NO CHANGE
BU – Brown 2 wires (for running lights) NO CHANGE
CU – Dark blue wire (for windshield wiper) From CZ
DU – Black wire (for windshield wiper) From DZ
Engine harness
AV – Tan wire (for headlight low beam) NO CHANGE
DV – No wire
AW – No wire (engine harness has black wire to trans switch for TCS)
DW – Red wire (main power feed from horn relay/starter) From DV
AX – No wire (Would be a tan wire for TCS)
BX – Pink wire (coil power feed from ignition switch) NO CHANGE
CX – Black/White wire (for amp gauge) From DT Note: Gauge dash only
DX – Black wire (for amp gauge) From DS Note: Gauge dash only
AY – Brown wire (for tachometer to coil -) separate wire on 70/71 harness
BY – Dark Blue wire (for oil pressure switch) NO CHANGE
CY – No wire
DY – No wire
AZ – Purple wire (to starter solenoid) From AW
BZ – Orange wire (for heater blower not used on air conditioned car) NO CHANGE
CZ – Dark Green wire (for engine water temp sender) From BS Temp switch on light harness
DZ – No wire (would be dark blue for TCS)

Best piece of advise I have seen in a long time. I take it you had to do this before...
