The winshield wipers work and the thing sounds like it is trying to pump when I turn the washers on but it is not pumping any water.I took hose lose from the pump to see if the lines were blocked and nothing comes out of the pump. It looks like the pump might be separate from the wiper motor, mounted to the front of the wiper motor. I am not sure. Do I need to take the whole thing off or does the pump come off only? I have never had to work on one of these before and have no idea how to go about doing it. Thanks for any information anyone can give me. It is on a 72 model.

The washer pump is seperate from the motor. Not sure if it can be done on the car or has to come off.
I changed one before off the car but it's been some time now.
Maybe someone else could chime in here.
Either way it shouldn't be too hard to see if it will seperate on the car.

If you pop the black plastic cover off the pump mounting screws are easily seen. Yes, the pump does come off the motor.
Pump works like an old bicycle pump. There's a piston under the top outlet. The outlet piece is held down by those screws near where the hoses are attached. The piston has an O ring on it. The O ring and gaskets dry out and the pump won't pump water. Sometimes lubing the O ring works for awhile but best to get a pump rebuild kit.

One more thing is that when I replaced the washer hoses, I had to prime the pump before it would start squirting liquid again. I just took a little squirt bottle and squirted it into the filter end of the hose that goes into the washer bottle then quickly placed it down into the jug. After trying the pump/wipers again it worked.
Hope you got it working!
