: Repo 1969 Chevelle Grill Moulding Quality???
plain 69 Feb 26th, 09, 7:05 PM Just wondering what experiences everyone that has a 69 have had with the 3 horizontal grill mouldings, lower, center and the one on the header panel? I just got mine today and tried to install them and they to say the very least awful.
These are the worst repo parts I have ever purchased. Hopefully there are more than one source for these. If not I guess I will get mine re-anodized and go that direction. I could not believe how bad the lower one fit on the grill. It was round instead of having a peak in the center. The other 2 had their issues as well. Just venting off some steam after waiting almost a month for one of them to come in.
john5469 Feb 26th, 09, 7:13 PM I'll need these also, were they made in foreign countries? maybe dumb question.
plain 69 Feb 26th, 09, 9:42 PM Said made in Tiawan on all 3 packages. They are going back tomorrow.
adscott Feb 26th, 09, 9:49 PM Let me know where you got them. Send me a PM if you dont want to post here please.
plain 69 Feb 26th, 09, 10:05 PM You got a PM.
Bill Rose Feb 26th, 09, 10:26 PM I used the complete repro grill kit from Ground-Up. Including the grill, all the moldings, head light bezels, grill extensions, and the 4 T-3's. The fit and finish was very good, and I'm very picky about this stuff. I was surprised how nice it all went together. See for yourself:thumbsup:

Don_Lightfoot Feb 26th, 09, 11:12 PM Good information to know Bill, just in case the need arises
micky69396 Feb 27th, 09, 8:33 AM I havent had any problems with any of them that we have used for the 69's.
ChevyMopar Feb 28th, 09, 2:56 AM I just ordered my Grill and molding last week, will be here tomorrow. Ill take pictures for you...I ordered from OPGI.
plain 69 Feb 28th, 09, 8:39 AM I found out yesterday when I took mine back that there are three different companies making them. I guess the place I go to buys the cheapest they can buy. They did say that one of the pieces is now made by one company.
plain 69 Mar 24th, 09, 11:20 PM I finally got my grill mouldings installed. I purchased them at Ausley's. The fit was pretty good. The only complaint I had was with the bottom piece. They have the studs crimped where they won't move to far. I had to bend a couple of them back out and move them around to install the moulding. The other 2 seemed to fit pretty good.
The only other thing I had a problem with was the SS 396 emblem. The self threading nuts that were supplied with it were to big. I had to purchase some smaller ones and they worked fine. The emblem was purchased at the place that buys the cheapest stuff they can find to sell.
Don_Lightfoot Mar 24th, 09, 11:47 PM Things worked out pretty good for you Larry, nice to hear. Those emblem speed nuts have always been a pet peeve of mine for 15 years. Seems no matter what type or year of emblem you purchase the nuts are always too big or too small (not hard to snap one of the studs) I've always had a bunch on hand just for that reason.
randog Sep 3rd, 10, 2:24 PM My 69 EC had a repo grille, it was ok for the restoration I'm doing, so I ordered all the other grille parts from OPGI, I've had pretty good success with them so far, but these grille parts really sucked. The ends of the center grille are bent in the wrong spot. So I thought maybe it's my grille, so I ordered a NOS grille from a GM dealer in IN. (found on Ebay) It came in, it's perfect, looks like an orginial grille, has numbers on the back, the repo doesn't, but the center grille molding from OPG still doesn't fit and bottom one not much better. I read here that Ground Up has good ones, so I just ordered the center and lower grille moldings. He said they are made by TWR I think he said, the ones from OPG are Corvex and they are not good. I'll let you guys know how these new ones fit. Randy
R/H DRIVE SS396 Feb 10th, 12, 10:14 PM Has anybody here used the '69 SS center grille molding from Goodmark and can comment on whether they fit well or not?
Thanks
