I have a 72 SS that I just put new shocks on and had the wheels balanced. I notice the front end starting to shake at about 45mph.It seems to be on the left side but that is hard to tell when driving. It does seem to go away when I make a right turn but comes back when I go straight again. I do not know where to start looking to correct this problem.I have let the car set for years and put very little miles on it so I am not sure when it started doing this. Thanks for any help anyone may give me.

Jack the front end up and check the front wheel bearings. While the front end is up in the air, grab each wheel and rock it horizontally and vertically, checking for any excess play in the centerlink and idler arm.

In addition, re-check the balance. A weight may have fallen off ... Also, observe whether or not tire appears to wobble when you have it up to check the bearings. Just spin it and observe it from head on. A bent rim and/or bad tire will also give you the shakes. If the shakes only appears after the car has been driven for awhile, you may have a sticking caliper if you have disk brakes. if you have drums up front, they may be over-adjusted .... Sorry for being so wordy .... just trying to be thorough...

Thanks for the help and ideas what to look for. I had the car into a service center yesterday for them to check because I could not find anything. They found flat spots on the tires and said they could be the problem. The tread is like new but when I put new tires on the car I did not drive it for almost a year. I guess I have spots on all 4 tires now. Since the tread is so good I am just going to drive it and hope the tires will wear down and smooth out as I get some miles on them.If that does not help I will take it back to the shop and have them check some of the other things you mentioned. Thanks again.

You can look for a good tire shop and they can cut the tread or true it. They do this on big (monster mudders) truck tires. They say even though it cuts tread off the tire actually wears better. Hope this helps.

when you park the car for long periods you should put it up on jackstands so the tires don't get flat spots
but I would also check the idler arm
and all the ather parts too but idler arms when they have play are notorious for shimmies
