: Barn find 66 chevelle
don lemek Feb 25th, 09, 11:25 PM When you think they are all found, I went to a friends house today and in his barn is a 66 Marina blue 2door hardtop Malibu with a brite blue int. with bucket seats and auto W/ console the first thing you look at is the original tires that are dry rotted but they look new, so I opened the door and looked in, it has 1,759 miles, the old lady that owned it backed into a pole and parked it. it is like a time capsule, you can see how things were painted like under the hood and in the trunk. It is a shame it was not stored some place dry, dampness took most of the frame markings off, but all the mechanical components are original and the interior is all original, but it is dirty from poor storage. If anybody needs to know a finish let me know, I can have access to this car anytime.

66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE Feb 26th, 09, 1:29 PM That tape is very common and ORIGINAL.. it was used to cover up factory Holes in firewall that would not be used... Good replication can be done using HOCKEY STICK Tape. ;)
james a larson Feb 26th, 09, 9:17 PM A wealth of knowledge. Is master cylinder cap original? Does it have the 2 little cut-outs?

Coupl eof great FACTS noted right here...
See ORIGINAL Correct Dipstick with Salmon Tip and Flat handle  Hard to find item and usually $$$
Good Spatter Paint example!
and If you look very close.. Tail light area is cut off just a wee bit shy of showing what I know to be the Original white "WHICK" to the Left of the socket...Look close and you will see the edge of it....You know a car is original when you see that little gem.. again, just a small but interesting Fact.

I found out about a 66 Malibu 5 miles from me tucked away in a barn under cover with less than 60K on it, marina blue also with bench seat, Powerglide 283. 2nd owner, he wont sell it, I offered him a good price 2 years ago and he said no. Great grocery getter!

How come this 66 small block has that precious dip stick and my 66 small block has this one? No fair.
DaleM Feb 27th, 09, 10:01 PM No seat belts or are they just tucked away? I could use up my 2Gb memory card taking photos of that one.
Nobody is selling the car?

gasoline_fiend Mar 14th, 09, 2:04 AM Thanks for sharing the pics, nothing like all original!
Stallone Mar 14th, 09, 8:34 AM Don, that car is a real gem. Please have your friend do something to slow down the deterioration process, one quick thing would be to cover the floor underneath it with some thick cardboard.
oldtimebaseballfan Mar 14th, 09, 10:13 AM Don, thanks for sharing the info and pics. That is priceless. What does the owner intend to do with the car? How long has he owned it?
CT Mark Mar 14th, 09, 10:29 AM How come this 66 small block has that precious dip stick and my 66 small block has this one? No fair.
That's exactly what my original dipstick looked like! No flat spot.
blm Mar 14th, 09, 10:37 AM Is it for sale.
I would think so. Most things are for sale as long as you have enough money. You could offer him a couple hundered thousand and see if he takes the bait!!!!
don lemek Mar 14th, 09, 5:19 PM He has had the car a long time but he won't sell. It just keeps getting worse and worse, so I am going to document as much as my computer will hold.
