need help again.. you guys are great!, when i got the car it was a basket case. someone took the pedals and bracket on top of the strg column.. I found a oem clutch pedal and brake.. i found the top bracket from an automatic car. everyone says its the same.. the clutch pedal goes on the outside and the brake inside. i need the pin that goes through the pedals. I searched I can't find. The ebay auction guy i bought one from said it came out of a 4 speed. But is the same size as the automatic one i just got. Am I crazy or is the pin longer on the 4 speed. Does anyone sell this correct pin

I converted a 72 car from auto to stick years ago. Indeed the bracket above the column is the same. I used mine. If I recall right I purchased a clutch pedal and used the automatic brake pedal. I just shortened it with a SAWZ -ALL to allow clearance of the clutch pedal.
My conclusion is that you should be OK (at least on a 1972) with the original brake pedal (after cutting it down) and a new clutch pedal. If I recall correctly the "pin" you are looking for is an integral part of the brake pedal. If I am right then you will never find that pin as an individual replacement part. I am 1000% sure I used the old automatic brake pedal and pretty sure that the pin is part of the brake pedal.
Conclusion....if you are working on a 72 (and I suspect 68 thru 71 as well) you are good to go with just a new clutch pedal.

the brake pedal is fine but the clutch pedal does not have an integral pin like th 64-67. it looks like the auto pin but it must be longer, the pin is serviceable but can't seem to find one.

I am gonna look at this in my illustration index and Gm parts book. It seems to me that you are saying that the pin is not part of eather the clutch or the brake pedals on the 1970?

You are talking about the PIN that the clutch pedal and the brake pedal rotate on? If you are you have the wrong clutch pedal. I am looking at the GM parts manual for a 70-72 Chevelle. On page 0-29 of the illustration index the clutch pedal assembly under your dash is pictured. The clutch pedal is listed as being in the Parts Book under section 0.830. If you are looking at some other pin in there then I need to do more research.
The correct clutch pedal P/N for a 70 to 72
with a 350 = 3967783
with a 396 = 3967783
with a 400 = 3967783
with a 402 = 3967783
with a 454 = 3967783
As I said earlier the pin that these two pedals rotate on is integral to the clutch pedal. If the clutch pedal you have has a hole in it it is NOT for a 1970 Chevelle. Whoever sold it to ya GOOFED or you got hosed.
Please advise on wether or not I have looked up the correct "PIN". As it stands right now the reason you cannot find a pin is the fact that the pin comes with the clutch pedal!
PS. I mistyped the original response. I should have said that the pin was integral to the clutch pedal ...I mistakenly said brake pedal. THat mistake aside there is no separtate pin for the 68 to 72 clutch and prake pedal to pivot on when yopu have a stick car. When you have an automatic there is a pin. You are right in that the stick pin is longer than the automatic pin but to get the stick pin you gotta get a clutch pedal with the pin attached.

thats what i thought. but the pedal fits perfectly, the guy said it came out of a 72 which is supposed to be the same. the other thing is i see bushings listed for the clutch pedal the same part number as the brake. weird. also, could the illustration be wrong. it is the same illustration as the 67 parts book. I have a 67 with the pin part on the pedal. it will not work on the 70 set up, i hope someone will crawl under their dash and find out whats really up. I suppose i can machine a pin, it only has to be 1.5" longer. what do you think?

First before I respond to your last post. For the sake of clarity and accuracy. I did not use my automatic brake pedal after cutting it down as I said I did earlier. I thought about cutting it down and using it during the conversion but I went ahead and ordered both the clutch and brake pedal parts new from GM. The stock 72 brake pedal (for an automatic application) does have a separate pin. The pedal has a hole in it. On automatics there must be a separate pin that goes thru the brake pedal that is somehow attached / secured into the pedal support brace. I looked at my 72 AUTOMATIC pedal this morning. There must have been be a PIN in the automatic application. That fact does NOT mean that there is a pin (sold separately) for the stick cars.
Now back to your problem.........................
IMHO you have the wrong pedal. P-E-R-I-O-D You are chasing your tail on this. 72 and 70 Chevelle pedals are the same as you stated and as my P/N research confirms. I just don't think you really have a Chevelle pedal!!! It really doesnt fit "perfectly" as you say it does because it doesnt work. If it worked this discussion would never have happened. It does not matter what "the guy" said...the pedal is not working because you cannot find the pin.
The bushings being the same is also irrelevant. They likely should be the same because GM used a given part in as many places as possible. I am not surprised that the bushings are the same. That fact has no bearing on how the pin is supplied / installed / designed by GM for stick cars.
The 67 unit that you have, the one that does not work, is also and I hate to say this again irrelevant to this problem. The only way to ascertain if the 67 unit will work in a 70 is to cross check the P/N's to see if the 67 car uses the same P/N as the 70 does. The fact that they "look" the same in the illustration index is not proof of intechangability. The part number is the issue, the picture is just a general guide to the parts that are located in that general area.
If your clutch pedal has a hole in it it is wrong for a 70 Chevelle. It might be for a 71 to 75 Camaro because they used a 7/16-14 x 4.5 inch BOLT to perform the function in the Camaro that the integral pin performs on a 70 Chevelle. Vega also used a bolt / pin but I don't ever recall that Chevelles used a pin / bolt on stick cars.
Looking under someones dash might help but I think it is not likely. The layout under there is such that looking is not going to tell anyone much. If they were willing to take their cars apart they will see that the pin is part of the clutch pedal on a stock 70 Chevelle. Like it or not you need the correct part and you don't have it...no matter what "The Guy" you bought it from said.
I am gonna leave this post now because I don't think there is anything else more I can try to tell you to help you out. Apparently you don't want to accept that the pedal you have is for some other application. For some reason you want to doggedly keep trying to fnd a part mumber that does not exist.
Perhaps the pedal you have is for a 70 Chevelle and someone butchered it. That could be the case but that does mean that you are gonna find a P/N for that elusive pin because IMHO GM never sold the pin separately.
I think you have the wrong pedal or a butchered pedal neither of which are gonna work.

You can buy the whole conversion package from placed on Evil Bay... Tamara's in IL is where I got mine... Its obviously aftermarket but works ok.... Doesnt look perfectly correct...
