i haven't even put the lemans on the truck yet, and i get an e-mail from the guy i purchased the car from, saying somebody wants to buy it.

i've heard this type of thing before, it's usually a guy trying to postpone buyers remorse, and having you back out of the deal. but a few minutes ago i recieved a call from indiana, nice gentleman who's first car was identical to this car, he wants to park it next to his low mile 72 chevelle (i told him about this site, so he might be here soon). i told him of course, everything is for sale at the right price, and i was sure at some point in time, this car would be also, but he's wanting to work something out now. i have only seen pics, my buddy who checked on it, said it was nice, although he drives a javelin, so i don't know if i can trust him to know what nice is ;).

i told the guy i didn't want to scare him off, or insult him, but to think it over, and make me an offer, that would hurt. after all i haven't even been able to drive the car yet, and i really didn't have a price in mind.

so... now i have to figure out how much it would take, to part with the car. do i want to spend another several weeks looking at turds to find a gem, or should i decline and just focus on the lemans? it took me about 30 cars to find this one, and i think i've seen everything local, so i would have to be as lucky on the internet, as i have been in the last few years. are the odds still with me, or do i end up with a p.o.s.?

i don't want to be a jerk and ask some outragous price, but i don't want to screw myself either....

Ask The BIG PRICE.. if he bites.. Good for you and Good for him! If he says No.. you are no worse off.. you still have the car.

Beyond the BIG Price, I would say.. HOLD...

Dollar for Dollar, that Lemans is probably going to be more reasonable than a comparable Chevelle. I would take a 400 Lemans over a comparable value Chevelle (which most likely will just be a small block car). Personally, I would take the Lemans, not even look back (as to being rare ), I would install the '71-72 GTO front endura front and hood. Some dual exhausts and a quad. I always thought the '70-'72 Poncho's were the best looking of the A bodies. JMHO.

Yeah, Andy is right. You really want to know what 510 ft/lbs of torque feels like. Nothing like 455 cu. in. under your right foot.
They are out there....

Bill, maybe you should get the car home and drive it a little. If you really like it, keep it. It will be hard to find a good clean replacement for that money.

Unless you make a huge profit, is it really worth it to sell it for a few dollars more?

I dunno how people ever feel like a jerk asking an outrageous price for a car. People act mad at me when I say a ridiculous price and I just reply I must not want to sell it very bad then. I would only sell my car for enough money to build it over again and make it worth my effort. Is that so ridiculous?

I just say "Let's discuss my mortgage balance." when asked about the 59.

I also come up with ridiculously high prices when asked----wanted this car since I was 10---got it on my 41 B-day and spen another 5yrs on it----it ain't goin' nowhere

Bill

This is a tough one now. He has some info to consider himself, first that he's got a good idea what you paid, right? Or at least a ballpark idea about what you paid. He has to know that you won't just let it go for what you paid, so maybe he'll play ball, ya know?

This is for sale by me. I can look at it for you if you want...
