I am looking at buying a 1970 chevelle SS454 from a guy down in Atlanta and was wondering how much is "too much" to pay for this car. Everybodys opinion wanted here!! The guy has owned the car for 12 years and during the restoration found the original build sheet. Not sure if its a LS5 or LS6 forgot to ask. I know that makes a huge difference but let say its an LS5 to be on the safe side. Anyway its all date coded correct drivetrain but not numbers matching. Its been proffesionally restored with new quarters inners and outers and proffesionally painted black cherry with white stripes PPG paint (cleared over stripes). Black interior with buckets and M-21 4speed. He has not listed a price but I spoke with him about the car and he says he is taking offers. The car looks Extremely nice and I dont want to low ball him. Whats a resonable offer that I should make???? $25K? $30K?

If it's a real 454 car, it should have an M22 rock crusher tranny, that was the only 4 speed available behind the 454. Get a picture of the build sheet and post it, there has been a LOT of fake cars showing up lately with the bad economy. A real, nice, NOM 454 car will probably go for at least $30-35K.
I can get you a numbers matching LS5 automatic car with a real build sheet for $39K. It's a driver, Black/black, but darn nice.

How do you get a fake buildsheet? I never knew this was possible? And also how do you tell its fake?

As Dave said post the build sheet here and the experts will help you spend your money wisely. Fakes are more common than the real thing lately.

Not exactly true. The LS6 came with the M22, The LS5 could be had with either.

As for this guy saying hes taking Offers..... Move on, Hes only fishing...

yep, i agree, i'm taking offers = i'm not really wanting to sell the car unless somebody offers me stupid $$$$, because nobody knows what my restored, survivor, original, clapped out p.o.s is worth but me.

look, this may be a real nice car, but the guy has to have a price range, and unless it's a car you just can't live without, and you have unlimited funds, i'd move on to people who really want to sell and are willing to work with you. in this economy, i think 30k will get you a pretty strong car, and these guys can help you find it, and make you feel good about your choice and chosing not to overpay.

i'll give a little leeway on an 8k pontiac, but a 25-30k car, i would have somebody check this ride out, before i'm cutting checks.

good luck, i hope you find the car of your dreams.....

What were your transmission choices for 1970 - 454 SS Cars & Caminos ?
My one owner has a M-22, I did not think M-21s were avaible with 454 Engines ? Someone correct me! I may be wrong, I thought the 454s came with T-400s or M-22s... ? FACT: 1970 SS 454 Cars & Caminos had a different 12 bolt rear end than a 1970 SS 396 with a 12 bolt. Most folks and CLONERS dont know the difference. I have seen documented LS-5s & 6s with 1970-396 12 bolt rears. Daaaaaaaaaaaaa!!

This arguement rears its head here occaisionally,I don't think anyone has documented an M-21 behind a 454,I haven't seen a factory one.The 454 rears had the big yoke,CRW,CRV.Mine was CRV,331 posi.Yes,lots of 454 cloners with the popular CCF.

As stated above, get some pics and post them here. Also more details if you want decent opinions.

I saved my pal in Chicago $9500 last week, he sent me a pic of a fake build sheet and window sticker, and even a fake POP. This seller went all-out on the fake docs....but it didn't get him anywhere with me.
