: does anybody know where this goes?
67erminerag Feb 25th, 09, 12:48 PM I took my dash apart on a 67 and this aluminum wedge came out from the steering somewhere. I can not figure out where it goes, and it doesnt seem needed. I have a pic, but dont know how to attach it to this post. The part is about 2 inches by an inch and a quarter, the side is triangular, and there is a long slot down the center. Thank you.
Mike Feb 25th, 09, 1:28 PM Sounds like a steering column shim -if so ,should be 2.
Post a pic.

67erminerag Feb 25th, 09, 3:15 PM Thanks for the link to the pics, but that is for classified ads, and apparently I have to be a paid member to post a pic. I dont see the second shim, where should they go? I am guessing inbetween the column and the bottom of the dash board?
the heckler Feb 25th, 09, 3:19 PM my 67 has only one of those aluminum shims. it goes under the back location (with the bolt) between the bracket from the firewall and the bracket attached to the column. lets you "tune" your steering column to be at 180 degrees.
furball8994 Feb 25th, 09, 3:20 PM Upload your pix to a site like photobucket.com (http://photobucket.com/?link=topmenu) Then just copy the "IMG Code" and paste it on here..
67erminerag Feb 25th, 09, 3:35 PM Hey heckler, I was just reattaching the bracket you are talking about, It goes around the column like a colar? The left side is attached to the firewall, and the right side just comes off with the two bolts that goin in toward the drivers side. If this is what you are talking about, where does the shim go?

I tried photobucket, lets see if this works. Thanks furball
SS396-67 Feb 25th, 09, 4:13 PM It fits between the bracket (that bolts to the upper column), and the dash.
There are 2 nuts and 1 bolt that attaches the coulmn to the dash, the shim is used with the bolt.
67erminerag Feb 25th, 09, 4:28 PM Thank you, I just finished installing it, and it fit like a glove.
gary salsman Feb 26th, 09, 12:25 PM The column brackets on the 67 have 3 aluminum spacers. One tapered like above, and 2 flat ones held in the bracket. They are made to slide out when the column collapses in an accident.
