Hey all

My car
69 Chevelle SS 396, with 1,700 miles on rebuild, After about 1,000 miles I had a performance shop set the air-fuel mixture set and recurved the distributor. It was running great till this morning (DAMN) LOL. I was leaving my house I stopped at the end of my driveway. And the motor died. Turns over fine but won't fire till I let off the key, Then it fires a little but won't start. Any ideas?????

Thanks
Dean

If you have point dist. sounds like your wire from switch to coil + side is off or broken. (this is a resitor wire). The reason it starts when you are cranking is that there is another wire that run from starter to + side of coil to supply 12 volts while cranking-hence when you let off key -no voltage. Easy check-run wire from hot side of battery (+) to + side of coil. Crank. If it starts cut engine off (if you leave it running for to long will burn up points-full 12 volts). Then check wire at plus side of coil with test light (switch on). No power here means that wire is broke or resitor (if it has one and not a resitor wire) is bad.

Did you remember to put the dielectric grease on the bottom of the module?

as far as ground wires..... one from motor to firewall, one from firewall to chassis & one from chassis to motor..... clean, bare metal for contact (can paint or put a thin layer of silicone over it to prevent rust after the grounds are tightened)
