NUTS FOR EL CAMINOS

Hello all. I looking for advice on tracking down a small electrical draw, which drains the battery every few weeks or so. I suspect that I have a short to ground somewhere in the IP circuit. The fuel gauge and gas gauge work on and off, mostly off. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks, Tom

Put an ammeter in series with your battery and start unhooking wires.

Instead of randomly unhooking wires as mentioned, put a cheap test light or meter in series between your battery cable end and battery terminal.
If you have a draw on the system the test light will light or your meter will register how much draw is on the system.
Remove fuses one at a time until the light goes out, or meter registers nothing. this will isolate the circuit that the draw is on. This will probably make finding the problem a little easier. If you have a radio that has a hot wire to retain station presets, this will show as a slight drain with your meter.
Be sure to unhook the positive cable from your alternator when doing your trouble shooting, a large percentage of battery drain problems originate there.
