Hey I have a 72 malibu 350 which has black primer on it right now...

I was wondering if any of you guys had and advice on where I should get my car painted in Los Angeles. I don't have too much money to spend but I really want to get my car painted.

Very little body work required....let me know if anybody has any advice

I want it painted Hugger Orange with black stripes, I dont know if that matters.

Hey Gary,

As you may already know, NOTHING is cheap in CA. Your question is basically a loaded one. Much of it depends on what you expect and how much you have. I can't imagine any car being painted for less than $1K and that's without bodywork and just shooting over what you have without any kind of warrantee. I know of nobody that'll even do that. Since you have primer already, I'm not sure who'll guarantee the work. Most people will want to make sure the paint has a good undercoat and will redo what's already on your car. So....there's some more money. I'd go to a few shops and get quotes and see what you're up against.

Im willing to spend up to $2000.

I just wanted to go somewhere that somebody with a chevelle has gone to and was happy with their paint job.

When I lived in Huntington Beach I had my 1972 Chevelle painted at Maaco in Costa Mesa I believe. It was a color change from brown to blue. I removed the bumpers, lights, grille, inside door panels and anything else i could. I left a couple of bolts in each part and when I got it to Maaco I finished stipping the parts off of it. I had three little children at the time and didn't have much money. Maaco was happy not to have to mask everything and when they were done it was a great budget paint job. You couldn't tell that it was ever brown.

Oh ya and since it didn't have much body work I got it back in 4 days. I bought some spray bombs and painted under the hood afterwards as well as spackel painted in the trunk. It was one of the best cars I ever had but I was dumb and sold it to buy a Vette.

I got a maaco paint job on my truck and it has been a nightmare. It flaked off on the way home. They repainted the hood, now, about 4 years later, there is hardly any paint left on the hood. They didn't do ANY surface prep like they were supposed to. They sprayed right over the edp coating on the hood:sad:

Also, their body work looks like crap, in fact, the dents looked better than their "body work."

I hear they are a franchise though so some are good and others are terrible.

Gary,

there is a place near us in Sylmar on San Fernando Rd. called PRO-TECH. I've had collision damage work done by them. The work was good and they seemed reasonable.

Here's their info:

I had it for a long time and had no issues with it. Now I've had some graet paint jobs from other shops and I've had some bad paint jobs from other shops. I had a truck with factory paint that has flaked off.

The attachment is a car we had painted at Maaco three years ago and it is as nice as can be.

I don't have a ton of money and I like cars. So I do as much work myself as possible. I also paint when I feel like it. But when time and money are a issue I have Maaco paint my stuff. If it isn't right it is warrenteed. TheMaaco's I've delt with have been good and I'm sure there are some that are not.

The Camaro in the attachments is my sons and it drove it to High School everyday. It is the best black paint job I've seen no parade wave. It is a Maaco paint job.
