: thoughts on Hagerty insurance
bamafan Feb 24th, 09, 12:38 PM I got a quote for Haggerty Insurance for my 66 chevelle.
What are your thoughts on the company? Good or bad?
easy to deal with?
thanks for your help with this.
von Feb 24th, 09, 12:51 PM I've had them for years but I've never had any claims. They are easy to deal with IMO.
VinceS427bb Feb 24th, 09, 3:27 PM I've had them for years but I've never had any claims. They are easy to deal with IMO.
:thumbsup:same for me
Andy69 Feb 24th, 09, 3:32 PM I've had them for 11 years, no claims. I do have an objection to their policy of requiring a licensed and insured daily car for everyone in the household with a DL, though. It;s OK now because we happen to have two drivers and two cars, but if they still have that when my daughter gets her license (long time to go, yet), I will probably look elsewhere for insurance. The only other restriction is you must have a garage that locks. No mileage limits.
FlameOut Feb 24th, 09, 7:18 PM Same here, no problems, but also never had any claims. Very easy to make changes via their website
Finally Feb 24th, 09, 7:49 PM 5 yrs, one claim. Someone backed into my car at a cruise-in. His fault, his insurance pays but I got no where with them. Called Hagerty and explained the situation and told them I wanted to do the repairs. Got 2 estimates and sent to them and they mailed me a check. They pay a flat rate for your labor if you want to do the repairs. It was only replacing the rear bumper and pad on my 70 SS and they sent a check for $500. I only had Hagerty for about a week when it happened so I can't complain. They were very understanding and said they would deal with his insurance, that was their job.
As far as having a daily driver for every driver I understand their policy. They're insuring your vehicle as a limited use vehicle. Can't drive it to work, etc. On the other hand they told me to get historic or vintage plates as it would drop my insurance about $100 a year. They even suggested keeping a list of local cruise-ins in the glovebox incase the police pulled me over so I could say I was going 'there'. Historic and vintage plates have restrictions in Michigan but I've never been pulled over in 5 years.
furball8994 Feb 24th, 09, 8:03 PM I've had them for years myself.. No claims, No problems. When I started my resto., I called them about dropping the Liability coverage. They said NO PROBLEM. I questioned the "agreed value" since it would be in pieces and was told "In pieces or together, Its still a 69SS". That was when it was valued at $15k. On my last renewal, They suggested I up the value to $17K. They have pix of the progress and are well aware of the stage and condition it is in at the moment...
BlueSS454 Feb 24th, 09, 8:41 PM I've had Hagerty since 2000 when I completed the 70. They were the only ones I talked too that would even consider writing a policy for me then 20 years old at the time. I have no complaints. I have 3 cars insured with them now.
john5469 Feb 24th, 09, 8:48 PM "all of the above".
Yelcamino Feb 24th, 09, 9:01 PM I used to have Hagerty. They were great except my premium would slowly get more expensive as time passed. I have Grundy now (for about 6 years or so) and the premiums have stayed pretty consistent.
IndianaSS67 Feb 24th, 09, 9:03 PM I've had them for 5 years, no claims. Will be adding my second car in a couple of weeks. They were recommended to me by friends at car shows.
SSuper Dave Feb 24th, 09, 10:36 PM I've had Hagerty's for 10 years. About 5 years ago, I was driving a '68 Chevelle sport sedan to get it inspected and got sandwiched between an 18 wheeler and a big 4wd truck. The car was totalled. I had it insured with them for $7500, they declared salvage value to be $600. I could have take the $7500 and surrendered the car, or taken $6900 and kept the car. I kept it and parted it out, cleared damn near another $3000. I had a check iside of two weeks with no hassle. The claims person told me she saw the pics of the car before and after and said she though tI should have had it insured for more since it was so nice! My current '68 Caprice is with them and the premium has been within a few dollars of the same for the last 5 years. Agreed value is $15,000, just paid the premium and it was $195. I can't say enough good about them.
highlandlake Feb 24th, 09, 10:46 PM Very friendly and easy to deal with. Very reasonable rates too. So far so good.
savage71chevelless Feb 24th, 09, 11:07 PM I have had them for 2 years now for both of my Chevelles. No claims. Great company and easy to deal with
dgwar Feb 25th, 09, 12:04 AM I have 3 insured with them, no problems.
CRUZN69 Feb 25th, 09, 12:21 AM I love them. Look at the pics in my sig line. They wrote a check 2 days after the accident.
Les Saville Feb 25th, 09, 9:20 AM As for anything shop around, at least check with Grundy.
66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE Feb 25th, 09, 9:47 AM See the trend here..... Most say.. NO CLAIMS.... so, just keep that in mind when selecting who you use.. not saying This one is bad or that one is better.. but when people tell you how great one is over another... most times it's b/c they feel they were "nice to deal with" or they got a better rate than the OTHER guy... The CLAIM is what counts in the end.. just my 2 cents.
Chevelle_Nut Feb 25th, 09, 10:20 AM I have both of mine with Hagerty and no claims. I do worry about insurance when I go "against" the policy. The other night I had to leave the 69 outside because I had the 72's frame in the middle of the garage. I was worried that if something happened what would they say. Fortunately we are way out in the country and have very few problems. Also, if I am driving the car to the auto parts store what would they say if something happened? I call that pleasure driving.
I just don't trust insurance companies.

:D and sounds like maybe they have reason to Not Trust you too ;)
Merlin Feb 25th, 09, 12:11 PM I had been with Hagerty for several years... no problems, no complaints. I shopped around this year, as many people do every so often, and found the next best premium to be $30.00/year higher. Same agreed value, same limits. I'm still with Hagerty... no problems, no complaints.
gmman4 Feb 25th, 09, 5:43 PM i have had hagerty for 4 years. never have had a claim. but it is good to see from other posts that if you have a problem, it is taken care of promptly. i always wondered about that. jim
I just signed up with them. They seemed easy enough to deal with and a great price for agreed value. Although I hope I never have to make a claim.
You are not going to get that with Allstate.:D

Agree!
As crappy as it sounds, I'd also like to hear more claims and who the carrier was--- How the end result was once a claim was made
ToyzRMe Feb 25th, 09, 11:41 PM I've been with Hagerty for 6 years.
I've got 5 cars with them.
One small claim a couple years ago, quick service and no problems.
The rates are reasonable and so are the restrictions.
:thumbsup::thumbsup: from me.

oh_heny Feb 26th, 09, 12:47 AM i used their website to get a quote and noticed that there is a huge difference in price when you choose the modification type as "stock" or "modified", so how do most of you have your cars listed as? and at what point do they consider a car to be a modified type? would basic upgrades like a cam and headers automatically change the classification to modified or are they looking more at the overall image of the car?
BlueSS454 Feb 26th, 09, 1:15 AM All 3 of my cars are listed as "Stock" with Hagerty, including the General Lee. The only mods I told them the 70 and the General had were headers and aftermarket exhaust. I made no mention of internal engine components. They were more interested in the overall appearance of the car. My 70 looks moderatly stock with a few upgrades. The General is bone stock except for the decals on the roof and doors, and the headers/exhaust which might end up getting replaced with stock HP manifolds next winter anyways.
bamafan Feb 26th, 09, 12:02 PM Thanks for the help guys....
StrokerBomb Feb 26th, 09, 6:11 PM got hargerty, no complaints
Les Saville Feb 26th, 09, 7:44 PM "The CLAIM is what counts in the end"
Three weeks ago I was driving the Goat and the starter smoked, I called a roll back and he charged me $216.00 to transport it to BillL's place. I called Grundy, faxed them the invoice, two days later they call to tell me checks in the mail. Deposited it that week.
Den's396 Feb 26th, 09, 9:44 PM I've had Hagerty for ten years no claims yet,has one tow bill never reached in my pocket.valued at $30,000 around $245.00 a year can't complain.
stroobydoo Feb 26th, 09, 9:59 PM I've had Hagerty for 5 years. They have been easy to deal with but, like many of the others that replied, I have had no claims.

I dont think changing a cam or exaust would be considered modified. I know when I told them I was putting a 6 pt cage in my street/strip car, it then became a modified car raising my rate about $150 a year. I told them I would probably take the car to a track once or twice a year which them prompted them to inform me the car will absolutely not be insured at the track, which I already knew.
ABAD72 Feb 26th, 09, 10:23 PM No clains here,, but 1 tow,,, I never seen a bill ..and they had a flatbed there in under 35 min on a saturday afternoon... no complains whatsoever after the restrictions and the premium state farm was chargin me..
